Here’s an AI commercial in Japan made with no crew, no set, no human actor, no make up artists, no PA’s, nothing. This is not a time to waver at all. We must fight to protect our industry, and our art. When I first started as an actor, being in commercials helped me pay my bills and continue to have time to audition for TV and Film. Thinking about replacing all those actors, and sets, and eliminating tons of jobs and replacing them with some random person behind a computer is so insane to me. Stay strong. #sagaftra
I know a spin when I see a spin, and sadly if the @sagaftra negotiating committee didn’t listen to @_justinebateman_’s knowledge and foresight on AI when we were in the power seat, as it seems they did not, I will personally be voting down this deal. I feel for Justine, who tirelessly shared her knowledge and sought to educate everyone beyond what their reactivity and anxiety might accept. I’m grateful to our negotiating committee, and I know that position is pressure-filled and hard, and I’m grateful for their time, tears, energy and what they fought for, but we have to think about our future, protect our profession and the professions of @iatse members and even agents and managers for that matter. The lack of transparency with a summery as suggested here, rather than the full deal, is also a 🚩 and I urge @sagaftra to obviously release the full deal, and in the meantime please comb through the language after @_justinebateman_ posts it. We are in a power position. It’s no different than people forgetting to vote in 2016 and then being like, “oh well I didn’t think THAT (list of nonsense) would happen, when many of us knew it would. I encourage everyone to comb through what Justine posts and think about your careers. My guess is the deal will pass due to fatigue, but I will personally be voting “no” on the basis of AI. In 2008 the deal I voted against didn’t protect us with steaming…it was a “new technology” and “we’d keep talking as it kept evolving” – that left us with NO $$ when it came to streaming and there was no course correction until this strike. We can’t do that again with AI and wait 10 + years after the damage is done to fight for things we deserved in the first place.

Currently doing the final touches on my next film so here’s my last little promotion of my 2017 film Your Day. (Link in bio). This 30 min film and everyone involved in it mean so much to me. It’s a gut punch of a cry and there’s a moment where you will want to retreat but trust that you might be rescued, and while most people ugly cry, the films largest pulse is love.
I’m grateful for the people who have commented and written to me over the years, and the friends who FaceTimed me with fresh tears after giving of their time and watching my first film. Shout out to all friends who watch ur films. True friends! I originally wrote this piece for the @hbo show Room 104 back in 2016, and made the decision to produce and direct it after it was passed on. The decision to still make what I had written even enabled me, ironically, to eventually sell a show to #HBO, a nice reminder that sometimes rejection followed by the new path IS divine.
A million thanks to the festivals who screened my film and eternally grateful to @omeletodrama who added me to their selection and enabled me to have an audience of 3.5 million I never would have reached otherwise.
