The annual @macys Thanksgiving Day Parade (that I used to get up at the crack of dawn for to help broadcast on NBC) calls for a hat roundup! π I remember hosting with the comical Willard Scott during those days and my hats became a bit of a joke β like the PD Eastman book, Go Dog Go! I would ask Willard, βDo you like my hat?β To which heβd respond, βI do, I do, I do like your hat!β
I wrote about more of those behind-the-scenes moments at the link in my bio. I canβt wait to watch the parade today β Iβll be picking out my favorite balloons π (and hats! π)

Nine year old Emily Hand has been reunited with her family after spending weeks as a hostage in Gaza, footage released on November 26 shows. This video, released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shows the moment Emily was embraced by her father, Thomas Hand, after her release.
I spoke to Thomas Hand last week in New York after he learned that Emily was still alive after initially being told she was killed in the Oct 7 attack while visiting a friendβs house in the kibbutz of Beβeri. Our conversation is linked in my bio.
A total of 17 hostages were released by Hamas on Saturday, the Qatari government said, including 13 Israeli citizens and four foreign nationals.

π¨Three Palestinian college students were shot in Burlington, Vermont, on Saturday evening, according to police.
According to @cnn reporting, the 20-year-old men are all receiving medical care, according to a Sunday police news release. βTwo are stable, while one has sustained much more serious injuries.β
The students were walking on Prospect Street while visiting a relative in Burlington for the Thanksgiving holiday when βthey were confronted by a white man with a handgun,β says the release.
βWithout speaking, he discharged at least four rounds from the pistol and is believed to have fled on foot,β police said.
Police said that two of the victims are US citizens and one is a legal resident.
Two of the three students were wearing keffiyehs, traditional Palestinian scarves, according to the police department. Two were shot in the torso and one in the βlower extremities.β
The FBI said Sunday it was βprepared to investigateβ the incident. In a joint statement, the victimsβ families urged law enforcement to investigate the attack as a hate crime.
βWe will not be comfortable until the shooter is brought to justice,β they said. βNo family should ever have to endure this pain and agony. Our children are dedicated students who deserve to be able to focus on their studies and building their futures.β
The statement, released by the Institute for Middle East Understanding, identified the students as Hisham Awartani, a student at Brown University in Rhode Island; Kinnan Abdalhamid, a student at Haverford College in Pennsylvania; and Tahseen Ahmad, a student at Trinity College in Connecticut.
This is a developing story with more updates to come.
π¨ Thirteen Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza since October 7 have been handed to the Red Cross, according to the Israeli prime ministerβs office, as part of a deal struck between Israel and the militant group.

More than a month ago, I spoke with Yoni Katz Asher, whose wife Doran, and daughters Raz and Aviv (4 1/2 years old and 2 years old) were kidnapped in an unprecedented surprise attack on Saturday, October 7.
On Friday, the family reunited with one another at the Israeli Schneider Childrenβs Medical Center. β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
Yoni shared a statement after his familyβs safe arrival, saying, βI am determined to help my family recover from the trauma and the terrible ordeal weβve endured, all for the sake of our children and Doron.β
βThough challenging days still lie ahead, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to our sons, who endured great suffering, as well as to the IDF, the Israeli government, and the Security Cabinet for their dedicated efforts. I extend my thanks to the wonderful people of Israel for their unwavering support.β
βA profound thank you goes to the Families of the Captives organization, which tirelessly works towards bringing them all back. While I am overjoyed to have my family back, itβs important to acknowledge that there are still people in captivity at this very moment, whose hearts are shattered. I am committed to doing everything in my power to ensure that every hostage returns home.β
βThe families of the hostages are not just names on posters or slogans; they are real people. They have become my new family from this day forward, and I will continue to work tirelessly until the last captive returns home. Thank you to everyone for your support,β he concluded.
Aviv, Raz and their mother Doron Katz Asher were kidnapped on October 7th from the home of their grandmother in Kibbutz Nir Oz. Doronβs mother, Efrat Katz (69), was murdered by Hamas. Doronβs husband, Yoni, last contacted them when Doron informed him that terrorists had entered the house they were in and that Gadi Moses, Efratβs partner, had been taken by the terrorists.

ICYMI: This morning, President Biden addressed the nation after Hamas released 17 more hostages, including at least one American β Avigail Idan, who turned 4 on Friday. This is the third day of a negotiated agreement that includes a pause in the fighting and the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners and detainees.
Also, The Palestine Red Crescent Society said on Sunday that 50 trucks of food, water, emergency medical supplies, medications and other items had arrived in Gaza and that 50 more were on the way.
#TBT from when I helped host the hilarious Billyβs Macyβs Thanksgiving Day Parade alongside the hilarious @billyeichner.π€ͺ From the marching publicists to the Mark Ruffa-loat, Iβm not sure how @macyβs is going to top it this year. π€π Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

π¨Over three dozen Palestinian prisoners returned home on Friday following their release from Israeli prisons as part of a cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas. Some of the freed prisoners had been accused of minor offenses, convicted in attacks, or were waiting to be charged.
According to reporting from the Financial Times, about 300 Palestinians are potentially eligible for release β about three dozen are women, while the remaining 250 or so are males aged 18 and younger.
βI have no words, I have no words,β newly released 17-year-old Jamal Brahma told AP News. βThank God.β Tears fell down his father Khalil Brahmaβs cheeks as he brought his son down from his shoulders and looked him in the eye for the first time in seven months. Israeli forces had arrested Jamal at his home in the city of Jericho last spring and detained him without charge or trial.
More than 6,800 Palestinians are at present imprisoned by Israel for various security offenses, according to the Israel Prison Service. Human rights groups estimate that almost a third are held under indefinite βadministrative detentionβ with no trial or official charge.
According to Addameer, a Palestinian prisonersβ rights group, many of the most recent arrests of Palestinians came during raids across the Israeli-occupied West Bank, where protests and violence have surged, including attacks on Palestinians by Israeli settlers. Israel has said the arrests are part of a counterterror operation against Hamas in the West Bank.
