So the good news is…
I don’t need surgery. The bad news is, this shoulder is fkd again.
But really, in this moment, I just want to lay down some gratitude for the people working in hospitals right now. I was so grateful to get in and out in under three hours, to get the shoulder shot 💉💥 and the medications I need to get this stupid, chronic injury better. I’m grateful for the kindness of the staff and the ER’s Dr. Clark who was so great with me. Even more grateful to walk away with nothing more than an $18 bill for a shoulder sling. I’m so fortunate to live in a country with universal health care.

Me, cautiously peeking back out into the world, finally (I hope), on the other side of this insane injury that has had me under water for a month. I missed a lot of important things; meetings, recitals, functions, friends. Happily I’ll be able to make tonight’s cadet ceremony which is so important to my kid. Still no diagnosis for why the neurological system in my neck/shoulder went so haywire but I’m just so freaking grateful to feel like a functioning human again, I could cry. I knew I was feeling better when I woke up thinking •must•get•work•

Today feels like a miracle. It’s the first day in a month that I’m not consumed by pain. That I didn’t wake up beside a pile of melted ice bags, grimacing as I fumbled for the heating pad to start to loosen the night’s vice grip. Constantly shifting around trying to find a position that would give me even a moment’s peace. I’ve experienced low-grade, constant pain before with this injury, but never this kind of crushing, unrelenting acute pain. I can see how chronic pain could be a killer; it eats you up. It’s torture. I am beyond grateful to have finally gotten some medications that could give me some relief, to crack this dark thing open and let me breathe again. It’s not over, not for bit yet, but I can finally see the light. Now…hopefully, to heal. Thanks to the many who cared, checked in and sent love ❤️
