My ode to Maa Durga! 🌺
Dhunuchi dance tradition is meant to represent one’s devotion to the goddess during Durga Pujo.
According to the mythology, Devi Durga was in a battle with Mahishasura.
During this time, the devotees performed this dance to the beats of DHAAK to offer strength and energy to the goddess.
Since then, the tradition of offering power and devotion to the goddess through this dance form started.
Due to the essence of Dhuno, the Dhunuchi is considered to be a symbol of prosperity. The clay pot’s shape is meant to hold coconut husk, camphor, and Dhuno (a form of incense made up of resin from sal trees).
The belief is that the smell of Dhuno brings positive vibes, good luck, and prosperity.
However for me personally, on Ashtami during sandhi pujo i feel the most vulnerable & yet the most powerful. There is an inner strength that i feel in every cell of my body while my soul is at peace.
Call it devotion or meditation, this is my way of thanking the Universe & Maa Durga for this life.

Greys!
So every now & then i will have some woman tell me that I should colour my greys & cover it. “It’s showing” they say.
Funnily every male friend of mine has specially complimented me about my greys saying how beautiful it makes me look.
So what is it with women & aging that society cannot accept?
On the other hand a MAN with a salt & pepper look is sexy , desirable, hot, blah blah.
So is it because I’m an actor that i need to constantly keep up with what’s happening in fashion/society?
As an actor depending on how my character looks is a very project based requirement & that can change be it hair colour or body weight, clothes, accent, etc etc.
But as an individual, on a very personal level I’m learning to embrace & love my body more n more with each passing year.
I used to be as thin as a stick in my 20s;
used to be called a flat screen because well i was flat. Now at 35- the body is very very different. Thanks to hormone upheavals & endometriosis i got curvy.
So…
Dear girls/ladies/women –
Life is going to throw enough challenges & pressures your way. So let’s not burden ourselves or each other with unnecessary judgments & the pressures of maintaining beauty standards.
Whatever you do (hair colour/botox/marriage, etc etc) – do it because you want to; not because you have/need to.
With each passing year the body will change. We have to evolve & learn to accept ourselves & age as beautifully & as gracefully as we can.
