The 4th castle on our UK road trip took us all the way to the North Sea: Bamburgh Castle Fun facts: 1. It’s pronounced bam-bruh and sits about 150 feet above the North Sea in Northumbria (northeast of England and super close to Scotland). 2. It’s a prominent filming location for the series, The Last kingdom. 3. It dates back to the Anglo-Saxons (AD547-1066). 4. #bamburghcastle was attacked by seemingly everyone — from the Scots, to the Danish, to the Vikings, to even their fellow English — Bamburgh was the first castle in England to fall to gunpowder during the War of the Roses. 5. Was home to several monarchs throughout the years. …this castle wasn’t on our list originally, but once we saw the setting, we had to go! Such a cool one 🤩 Next up, we’re heading WAAAAAY north on our castle adventure!

They also allowed indoor photography so we were able to capture the stunning interior architecture/design, YAY! We were lucky that the palace had just reopened after getting decked out for the holidays, which made the visit extra special. Fun Facts: 1. Blenheim Palace is the home where Winston Churchill was born when his parents came for a visit in 1874. 2. An American woman, Consuelo Vanderbilt, and her large dowry upon marrying Charles Spencer Churchill (9th Duke of Marlborough), saved Blenheim Palace from ruin as he was running out of money. Duchess Consuelo was forced to marry the Duke by her mom who apparently locked her in her room for three days until she agreed to marry the Duke. She gave birth to two heirs, divorced the Duke after a couple of decades, and finally married the love of her life. Duchess Consuelo is also an ancestor of Anderson Cooper (his mother was a Vanderbilt). 3. The wooden floors in the large library are original!!!
