Tisca Chopra Instagram – This is Sita .. She is a tea plucker at #MakaiBari in Kurseong, Darjeeling, one of the oldest tea estates in the country.. Shea wakes up at 3am and plucks till about 10/11am .. A few times a year they pluck under a full moon. We were there on one such festive night, where songs were sung to drums, as we danced and plucked tea under a full fat moon .. Sita has two children and takes enormous pride in her work and the fact that there are no pesticides used at Makaibari .. it continues to be nestled in the middle of a lush forrest .. Holding up a spring of a tea leaf, she said to me ‘yeh patta (left) hee hamari jaan hai’ ..
