Earlier this year, local officials discovered that a Chinese national was running an illegal biolab in California. This lab was packed with nasty stuff like dengue, COVID-19, HIV, malaria, tuberculosis. We also have reason to believe that this individual was stealing American intellectual property for the Chinese Communist Party.
If the government found deadly pathogens lying around a hidden lab, you’d assume this would be addressed immediately, right? Well, when they called the CDC, they hit a wall. California state and local officials told @repgallagher and @committeeonccp that the CDC was slow to respond, and only launched an official investigation after months of dragging their feet.
The CDC Director couldn’t give me an answer on why they didn’t test all the samples right there on the spot, as per the explicit request of state and local officials. We just had a pandemic that wreaked havoc worldwide, possibly originating from a lab in China, and our own CDC is claiming they lack the authority to fully test a hidden biolab? This is EXTREMELY concerning.
This exposes gaping holes in our oversight of risky research. Our federal government is flying blind, with no game plan to identify or tackle this looming threat. We have to get to the bottom of this.

Responsible Republicans have been sounding the alarm about entitlement spending forever. While there’s always a few “deficit hawks” who yell and scream every year about appropriations bills, the truth is that these annual spending bills only account for 1/3 of total spending, and half of that is for our military. The real deficit hawks are more concerned with the 2/3 of spending that comes from Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.
So it has to be fixed.
But how? Democrats just want to raise your taxes. That’s it. Raise taxes on young people and transfer the money to your grandparents.
There’s a lot more sensible solutions than that, of course.
But again, if you’re young and worried about these retirement programs (as you should be), you should never vote for Democrats.

Why vote to expel Santos?
1. The ethics violations were crystal clear and pretty serious. Sure, there are always unserious, frivolous ethics accusations in Congress. This wasn’t one of those times. 2. Given all that, why should I allow my Texas constituents’ tax dollars to keep paying his salary?
3. The notion that he “had no due process” is bonkers. The House Ethics Committee investigated this for months, gave Santos the opportunity to provide evidence and sworn statements (he never did), and then held a vote. The vote was unanimous.
4. Many members keep saying “he wasnt convicted yet,” so had to vote no. Once again, members of Congress want someone else to do their job for them, in this case the courts. If the
Founders thought only a court conviction could expel a Member, then they would have written that into the Constitution. But they didn’t. This process is about internal standards of behavior that ultimately preserve the integrity of the institution.
