GEORGE AND GEOFF TO UNVEIL RUE DAVID BOWIE PLAQUE
“Look for the shafts of light on the road…”
It is a privilege and an honour for the David Bowie Estate to have been asked by the town hall of the 13th district of Paris to support the organisation of the inauguration day of Rue David Bowie in Paris on Monday, 8th January 2024.
Here’s what the spokesperson for the district had to say:
+ – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – +
“Four years after the death of the English rock star, David Bowie, the mayor of the 13th district of Paris, Jérôme Gourmet, decided to submit the idea to his council to give the name of David Bowie to one of the new streets located in the future Austerlitz district. The deliberation was voted at the council of Paris on February 3, 2020.
This “Rue David Bowie”, the first section of which will be inaugurated on January 8, 2024, will be located on a road still under construction in the area Paris Rive Gauche. It already hosts Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat places and will start at 61 avenue Pierre-Mendès-France (where the unveiling will take place) and end at boulevard de l’Hôpital. David Bowie did not have a special link with the 13th district but did have one with Paris. For the mayor of the 13th – a fan of contemporary art also a fan of David Bowie – who is keen to give a strong cultural image to his district, this project makes sense.”
+ – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – +
Jérôme Soligny, who was involved with the organisation of the event, had this to say: “To unveil the plaque, I suggested calling on David’s lifelong friends, George Underwood and Geoff MacCormack, who both accepted enthusiastically. Today George is a painter and Geoff a photographer, but they are well known to fans of Bowie for accompanying him at various stages of his career. An acoustic concert will also take place at the end of the day at the town hall of the 13th district on the walls of which, on this occasion, paintings by George and photos by Geoff will be hung.”
Stay tuned for updates regarding the unveiling and concert.

THANKS FOR NUMBER ONE DAVID
“Where have all the good times gone…” *
Having spent five weeks in the top slot upon release, fifty years ago this week Pin Ups dropped down to #2 in the UK album chart after being unseated by Roxy Music’s Stranded album.
Pin Ups spent 13 weeks in the top 10 and RCA marked its spell at #1 with a full-page advert in the UK music press, which we’ve reproduced here. We’ve also reproduced a similar ad from an American magazine.
The unusual 1973 live shot of David wearing shades was a pleasing sight, as it hadn’t been documented anywhere previously. As you know, Halloween Jack made the most of them the following year for Cracked Actor.
As we mentioned, Pin Ups entered the chart at #1 on the chart dated 28 October 1973 – 3 November 1973
Here are the positions taken from the following week’s chart:
#01 Pin Ups – #14 Aladdin Sane – #16 Hunky Dory – #22 Ziggy Stardust – #46 The Man Who Sold The World – #50 Space Oddity
That week, the man who released his debut RCA album just two years previously, had six albums in the Top Fifty. As far as we are aware, that’s a feat that hasn’t been equalled by a living artist since.
Bowie himself still holds the title for most simultaneous albums in the UK Top 100, when he held an incredible 19 places following his passing in 2016.
* Today’s lyric quotation is from The Kinks’ song of the same name written by Ray Davies. It was the only song on Pin Ups with its lyrics reproduced on an insert sheet in the LP. The success of Pin Ups triggered the rush rerelease of The Kinks’ version as an A-side following its original appearance as a B-side in 1965.

EUROPEAN LEG OF 2003 A REALITY TOUR CLOSES IN GLASGOW
“So I said “So long” and I waved bye-bye…”
David Bowie ended the final show of the 2003 European leg of his A Reality Tour at the Glasgow SECC on the 28th November 2003, twenty years ago tonight.
Glasgow was without doubt one of the best shows on the tour, but don’t take our word for it…read on for a few snippets of reviews from the Scottish press the following morning:

The Scotsman – Five Star review by Fiona Shepherd
NOW is a good time to be David Bowie, and a good time to be a fan of David Bowie. The Thin White Duke looked more dazzling than ever, his voice is in supple shape and, thanks to his wonderful intuitive band, everything else sounds great too.
…In 2003, this ultra-cool 50-something has wired back into the spirit, the strut and the stance that makes him peerless still.
————————————————————————————————————-
The Herald
…The 56-year-old has consistently proved through this current tour that age is no barrier to performance. He wowed fans with a raft of classics, obscure gems, and tracks from Reality, his new album.
————————————————————————————————————-
The Sun
DAVID BOWIE gave his Scots fans a Reality check last night. The rock legend put on a stunning show for an 8,000 sell-out crowd at the SECC in Glasgow as he wound up the British leg of his world-wide tour.
The 56-year-old superstar wowed fans by opening with classic hit Rebel Rebel before plugging songs from his new album, Reality. …It was Bowie at his best.

The Herald
…The 56-year-old has consistently proved through this current tour that age is no barrier to performance. He wowed fans with a raft of classics, obscure gems, and tracks from Reality, his new album.

20 YEARS AGO TONIGHT BOWIE ON PARKINSON
“Pictures on my hard drive…”
Twenty years ago this evening, The Parkinson Show featured Michael Parkinson in conversation with David Bowie, Victoria Beckham and Clive James.
Rather than us rattle on about how good it was, you can still view the full show over on the BBC iPlayer: https://bbc.in/47uBFZN (See Linktree in bio)
Aside from the BBC’s own image of DB and Parky, David is pictured here during performances of Ziggy Stardust and The Loneliest Guy and while rehearsing for the show, via the lens of @blamsnap.
