Frank Stallone Jr. Instagram – One of true iron men of boxing Battling Nelson was feared by most fighters of his era he would fight anywhere and anyone from 20 rds to 60 rds and these were 3 minute rds no problem. Doctors studies showed he had abnormal thick skull and such a slow heartbeat that he would be getting warmed up after 20 rds. He stated in a newspaper article I’ll get him after 30, rounds that is. The famous writer Jack, London called him, the abysmal brute for his endurance, roughness and heartless pursuit in a fight. These were three minute rounds, wearing 4 ounce horse hair gloves mouthpieces were not allowed at that time and he fought everybody regardless of color for he did not draw the color line, he was an amazing specimen of durability. He was born Oscar Matthew Neilson in 1882 in Denmark and raised in hedgewitch Illinois later in life he lost most of his money and lived in dire poverty and finally ended up in a charity ward where he died in Chicago in 1954. #battlingnelson #boxing
