Frank Stallone Jr. Instagram – One of my rarest posters is of Jack Dillon versus Larry English. Jack Dillon aka Jack the giant killer was from Frankfurt Indiana and if 5 foot seven fought most of his battles against larger men. He was considered a ferocious fighter in almost 247 fights he prevailed in quite a few he ended up in asylum in Chattahoochee Florida, were he died and was buried in an unmarked grave in 1942. There has been some mention of my thoughts on the Sam Langford versus Ketchell fight anyone that follows the sport knows that in those days they were newspaper decisions. The majority of decisions was who won the fight, but there were also newspaper men that disagreed with each other of who won the fight, as they do today I have thousands and thousands of newspaper clippings on boxing going back to 1900 and further and if these people, the so-called experts today if they knew what they were talking about, you would read all these ringside newspaper reports again like today people disagreed on decisions some people thought Ketchell won some people thought Langford won so do you research and you will come to the same conclusion that everyone has a different opinion. On Joe Borrell I made a mistake. He fought Harry Greb four times. I have a two hour taped interview with Joe Burrell, who was a dear friend of mine and he told me he had dropped Harry Greb in one of the fights as he said I had him down! so he fought him four times not two times OK kill me ! But as far as newspaper decisions, again it was the majority of the decisions from the newspaper scribes a lot of the fight game was crooked then as of today and a lot of scribes were on the take. but they were still disputes. For instance people believed Henry Armstrong beat Ceferino Garcia, which would’ve made him middleweight, champ and four-time titleholder in the era of eight weight divisions. Also, Mickey Walker against Jack Sharkey, who most believed Walker won the decision.
Frank Stallone Jr. Instagram – Not to forget great the young handsome Jewish bantamweight Abe Goldstein, born in the slums of New Yorks lower east side 1898 an raised in an orphanage he grew up the hard way . Abe is considered fifth greatest bantam weight of all time. He had 136 fights including newspaper decisions ,Goldstein fought some of the greatest banty’s of that time. Abe lost his title to Eddie ‘Cannonbal’ Martin. Like most boxers Goldstein lost all his savings in the crash of 29 and ended up driving a cab. He lived to the ripe age of 78.
