Garin Nugroho Instagram – Garin Workshop and IFI Yogyakarta present “Setan Jawa” Special Screening followed by Q&A with director, Garin Nugroho The silent black and white film has been presented with live gamelan and orchestra throughout the world, Such as Asia TOPA: Asia-Pacific Triennial of Performing Arts, Esplanade in Singapore, Musée du Quai Branly in Paris (France), Holland Festival in Amsterdam (the Netherlands), Cadogan Hall in London (United Kingdom), Haus des Rundfunks, Berlin, and several other theaters. He proposes to Asih, but Asih’s Mother rejects it strongly. As he lives in desperation, he goes to a mystic market and finds a sacrificial ritual called Rumah Bubrah and makes a deal with the Devil. He becomes rich almost instantly and finally be able to marry Asih. However, his house keeps on being damaged by the Devil’s subordinates, which forces Tresno to perform the ritual endlessly. Until one day, Asih finds out about this, and she is committed to do anything she can to break the deal and release them from the grasp of the Devil.
