Aguasabon Falls is only a short hike off the Trans-Canada in Terrace Bay Ontario. We’ve stopped here every time we drive by and it’s always as spectacular as I remembered it. The kids seemed to enjoy it too!

Given that we were on a schedule to get to Telegraph Creek, we didn’t have a ton of time for side adventures but we had to at least check out Maligne Canyon on our way through Jasper and it was pretty epic!

This past Oct., @heatherbairdoutdoors @ted.baird @torigoesoutside and I hauled an extension ladder around in the bush to access some big specimens of Chaga that were growing way up in the birch trees that the fungus calls home. We made sure not to cut it all off, leaving some on the tree so that it will regrow. Chaga is a medicinal mushroom that makes a good tea, particularly when a little honey or maple syrup is added. We finally got around to processing it yesterday by cutting it into small chunks with my Commercial Series Butcher Knife by @coldsteelknives and then blasting it up into powder with a coffee grinder. We still have a lot more to process yet. To make tea out of it, it’s best to add the powdered Chaga it to a loose leaf tea bag and let it steep in hot water. I can’t wait for a few good mug ups of this wild tea while I’m in the bush this winter.

(Full vid. linked in bio.) On the morning of day-4 of our cross-Canada Overlanding trip, I took this very special little hike with my son Hudson. He found this trail that skirts the north shore of Eagle Lake in Northwestern, Ontario and i basically followed him until the trail led us right to a perfect little swimming hole. What an awesome side adventure. We would continue on from here to cross the prairies, camping in Buffalo Pound and then continue to Jasper. We were heading for Northern BC’s Stikine River for a 10 day canoe trip into Alaska.
