Recently in Rome we stood with @franciscus and prayed for peace in our world. As each day brings more news of terrible violence in the Holy Land, I join with him in inviting Christians to take part in tomorrow’s day of fasting and prayer. Let us beat on the doors of heaven and pray for peace in our time, peace in our world.
The atrocious attack on Al Ahli Hospital violated the sanctity of human life.
We must exercise restraint in apportioning blame until the facts are clear.
But the bloodshed, slaughter and suffering of innocent people on all sides must stop.

On All Hallows’ Eve, Christians prepare for the coming of All Saints’ Day tomorrow, when we remember in prayer all those people of God who made a huge difference in the lives of others because of their faith in Jesus Christ.
Today is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. May we hear the cries of those around the world who suffer for their faith in Jesus Christ. And stand in prayerful solidarity with them for a world where all are free to peacefully practice their religion or belief.
I’m saddened to learn of the passing to glory of retired Bishop Paride Taban on All Saints Day 2023. It was an honour to meet him in his quest for peace in his beloved South Sudan, both among leaders and the people, at the national and community level.
Bishop Paride’s unique Peace Village provided a venue for rival groups to work close-up at their differences and solve many of them. It was my honour in 2017 to present him the Hubert Walter Award for his peacebuilding efforts and the promotion of the education of boys and girls.
I pray for Bishop Paride’s family, all who loved him, and for the people of South Sudan who he served in Christ’s name. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
In a time of horrific violence across the globe, may we also remember the Kuki-Zo Christians in Manipur, India, who have been under attack since May. Over 140 people have died and thousands more are displaced as hundreds of homes and churches have been destroyed.
Last Sunday, the community at St John’s Southall Green gathered to pray for Manipur. I join them in asking God for justice, a lasting peace, and reconciliation in the region and beyond.
On All Saints’ Day, Christians celebrate the lives of all those who have gone before us. Tomorrow on All Souls’ Day, we remember those we have loved who have died.
Both feasts give us the certain hope that on Earth we are united with the prayer and praise of those in heaven.
At this time of extreme crisis in the Holy Land, Archbishop Hosam Naoum and I are calling for your prayers and support for the Anglican Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza. Despite the devastating explosion last week, they continue to care for those in urgent need.
Please also pray for the Christian ministries working in the Holy Land, helping those affected by the conflict both practically and spiritually. May they be strengthened and allowed the freedom to continue their important work, unimpeded by violence and catastrophe.
St Paul teaches us that when one member of the Body of Christ suffers, all parts suffer with it.
If you are able, please contribute to our Gaza Appeal. And please join your prayers with ours for the Church in the Holy Land. Link in bio.
On All Souls’ Day, while we weep for those we love who have left this life, we can remember that they ‘rejoice with us, but on another shore and in a greater light’.
In this time of profound suffering in Israel and Palestine, we stand in prayerful solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
The ministries of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem across Gaza, Palestine and Israel include healthcare, education, youthwork and work towards reconciliation. They need our support to continue their vital work during this devastating war and beyond.
If you are able, please give to support our Palestinian Anglican Christian sisters and brothers in the Holy Land to continue reaching out to all in need. Link in bio.
It was wonderful to welcome new bishops from across the #AnglicanCommunion to Lambeth Palace yesterday evening. I’m grateful for these new relationships and I pray we continue to find chances to come together in unity and friendship, as we share the love of Christ in our many contexts.

Lovely to host Lambeth Palace staff and guests at our community carols service yesterday evening. I pray that, over Christmas, all feel the warmth of light and life of he who will come like child.

Delighted to award this year’s @mramseyprize to @fbauerschmidt for his book, ‘The Love That Is God: An Invitation to the Christian Faith’.
‘God is love’ is a timeless message that drives us deeper into God’s arms and outwards to love others.
I’m grateful to all the talented writers who featured in the prize this year, and I very much enjoyed reading the excellent variety of theological writing on the shortlist.
