When I was asked to choreograph Red, White & Royal Blue, I sat with director @matthewmichaellopez and talked about the New Years Eve scene. I remember thinking, “How can we give Alex and Henry a visual moment where they see each other from across the room in a way that hasn’t been done before?” I pitched, “What if everyone is dancing to Get Low by Lil Jon and then everyone gets low but the two of them?” Haha. Little did I know that Get Low had already been written into the book and the script. I guess it was meant to be. 🤷♂️
Choreography can be catchy and creative but it can also be as simple as two people falling in love. It’s all about creating moments through movement.
