@rikrankin on ‘Halcyon Night’: That kind of speaks for itself. An astro shot of Yosemite Valley just past dusk at twilight, not quite fully night, which is why you’ve got a little bit of light down on the horizon. That shot was a looong time in the making; I’ve got hundreds of that very same composition at different times of the day from many, many trips around the park. A composition made famous by Ansel Adams, who introduced Yosemite Valley to the world in terms of a modern sense of photography, photographing the park throughout his lifetime. On the left hand side, you’ve got El Capitan, in the center is the Half Dome, on the right hand side you’ve got Cathedral Rock and Spires and Bridalveil Fall. It’s a long exposure, so you’ve got some lights of cars leaving the park down on the valley floor. That’s what is lighting up the central area of the photo. It’s just a very classic night time landscape shot. ——————————————— 🎁 Don’t forget that shipping is on us this week — all photos, all sizes, all countries! Just choose the FREE SHIPPING option at checkout. ——————————————— ‘Halcyon Night’ is available at the sales gallery linked in our profile in the new SIGNATURE Collection. @rikrankin on ‘Harmony’: This is one of my favourites. especially when I saw it in person. It’s such a beautiful piece of art with its pastel colours. Shot just before night time at Joshua Tree National Park. And it ended up being quite dangerous because I couldn’t see a bloody thing and couldn’t find the car. I spent a little while after I had shot it doing an astro shot, which didn’t really come out as well as I had hoped. AND I had a sprained ankle from doing Macbeth [in London 2021], so that also made things really, really treacherous. But I love the flowing composition through it. And the different colours and pastely tones. And the way the moon is sitting dead center above. The textures are also very satisfying to contemplate. Printed on the slightly rough and dimensional surface of the William Turner Fine Art paper with its watercolour look, it’s just sublime. As a piece of art on a wall, it’s just a beautiful piece of work for the colours and the shapes alone. I’m planning to put it on the opposite wall to my Palm Spring collection in my hallway. ——————————————— 🎁 Don’t forget that shipping is on us this week — all photos, all sizes, all countries! Some reminders and a story for you today! 📦 FREE SHIPPING through Sunday midnight Pacific time. Just choose the Free Shipping option at checkout. 🖼️ Sunday is also the FINAL DAY to order FRAMES for Christmas delivery! The cut off for Standard prints is also in a few days, don’t miss out! And now here’s @rikrankin on ‘Vrikshasana’: I deliberately made that a bit abstract to sort of encourage people to really look at a photograph. To really investigate what’s going on. When we had the exhibit, it kind of caught a couple people out that were talking about it. I was like, Have you actually looked at it? And they were like, Yeah, yeah. And I was like, What’s odd about it? One or two maybe were able to tell me, but most people missed the fact that there’s a tree missing. There’s just a black empty void in the shape of a tree. So it has an abstract element to it. That was shot in Bali, Indonesia. The only one that wasn’t shot in the States in the Signature Collection. I also plan to put it up on my wall, because it’s got a real peace about it. I also love the horizontal lines. If you look really closely, there’s a very soft gradient to it of 3 different areas: you have an infinity pool in the foreground, the ocean in the middle, and the sky in the background. It’s very soft, very subtle; you have to look really closely. The symmetry across that shot, with all trees at a similar height, is also really great and contributes to the peaceful feeling. It’s called ‘Vrikshasana’ after the yoga move, The Tree Pose. And From the Desk of Maureen, Sales Manager: What I really love about the Fine Art print for this photo is the very pale blue border that he’s done. I will also add that version to the post. The blue border elevates the entire photo and makes the water look silvery. It’s also another perfect example of how the Fine Art paper plus the Giclée method of inkjet printing creates a very saturated and dimensional look. The tree bark looks rough and tactile. And the blackness of the negative space of the missing tree is greatly enhanced so that it dramatically sinks into the paper.

See the Fine Art section in the cart. They are signed, titled and numbered, and are available for all our Scotland photos. And now, here’s @rikrankin with the story of ‘Tetris’: The composition in this shot is almost a 180 geometrical negative space. It’s a profile shot of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. A famous landmark, nearly 1,000 metres high of solid granite, it appeals to free climbers who are brave enough to attempt it. The sky wasn’t actually far off that colour that day. It was completely blue, with no clouds. No drama going on. And so I was inspired by the apparent retro feel. It called to mind the vintage tourism posters with a comic book look. That was the vibe I was going for anyway. As a big print, nicely framed on the wall, it is a gorgeous piece of art simply because of its colour and shape. It has that duality about it, beyond what the subject actually is. ‘Tetris’ is available in our SIGNATURE Collection at the sales gallery linked in our profile at the cart icon at the bottom of its main page. Our Fine Art Limited Editions are signed, titled and numbered, and accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity. They are printed in the Giclée method on Hahnemühle William Turner, which is an archival rated , mould-made cotton paper with a textured finish and watercolour look.
