Spoiler alert: the hidden tape was not in the secret room above the ramp, so I was unable to ➡️⬇️⭕️ my way through it as planned.

Happy 31st to this wonderful, talented young man. I am thankful he found the love of his life and a healthy, disciplined approach to adulthood. And that he is inspiring his younger siblings by example. We had a blast at the wedding and we love you Riley! (Frances please show this to him since he’s no longer in the Insta bubble)
This clip from “The Magic Rolling Board” (1976) still blows me away. Yes, he (Ed Nadalin? Steve Shipp?) is grabbing with his toes because the Ollie technique had not yet been discovered / created / unlocked.

Back lip with some help from my little friend, 1995. Tried one on a different rail – sans kicker – not long after this and clipped it in the worst way. That’s about the time I realized I should focus more on vert if I want to enjoy skating much longer, even though ramps were scarce and very few cared about us padded dinosaurs.
Tomorrow – nearly 30 years later – my final video will be released and it’s entirely on vert. Follow your passion; it’s worth the struggles and can give you a lifetime of joy.

Yesterday I got invited to skate one of the only vert ramps in Belgium. It was a mission akin to skating in the 80’s: drive 2.5 hours to meet up with a small crew at a remote location and proceed to skate, fall, sweat, bleed and laugh in a brief respite to the responsibilities and challenges of daily life.
This first clip is a microcosm of why we continue to chase this feeling well into our adult lives: Philippe (who I’ve only met once before) told me he hasn’t done Indy airs in years and asked for some pointers. I watched him attempt a few and gave my best advice. He tried it for most of our session and then something clicked just as our exhaustion and endurance were closing in, culminating in this moment of pure joy and youthful exuberance. The power and hold that this hobby / sport (vice?) has over us is immeasurable, and worth all the effort. Thanks to Dario for the invite, for supplying the ramp and sharing the passion. 🇧🇪🧇🛹 Belgium, Europe

– two handfuls of CD’s including SLF, Erasure, U2, The The, Love & Rockets, Peter & Test Tube Babies. I must have bought these all while on tour since I didn’t have a CD binder. And I definitely broke / scratched / lost most of them along the way.
– handwritten note proclaiming skateboarding is not a crime… because it was once outlawed in Norway
– Limpies pants & bum bag, Airwalks and experimental Underhill deck
– typical Euro demo scene circa 1989
– judo air while #rayunderhill watches over me, as I like to think he continues to do.
