So, we invited him to meet some students from Henry Fawcett Primary School to talk about his experience of bullying and answer a few fun questions too. Since 2020, we’ve partnered with @nationwidebuildingsociety, to help put an end to bullying by training an additional 10,000 Anti-Bullying Ambassadors in primary schools across the UK. Watch the full video via the link in our bio! We are very proud to announce that @willpoulter is the official ambassador for HFEH Mind Youth Services. As well as being our actor on screens, Will is an active campaigner for young peoples voices and mental health. After suffering from his own mental health challenges growing up, Will is on a mission to raise awareness and ensure that no young minds get left behind. Over the next year Will will join forces with HFEH to help shine a light on our all important #fundmylocalhubs campaign. We are excited to have a local champion help us pave the way. #thecirle #owmyanxiety #mentalhealthawarenessweek #younghfehmind The climate crisis is real and now. But we can’t stop fighting for a better tomorrow. So proud to have been a small part of this special film, highlighting the vital issue of climate change with a refreshing and unflinching look at how we respond. Directed by the insanely talented @samona_o for @greenpeaceuk Executive produced by Bona Orakwue and Steve McQueen, featuring the contributions of so many talented people @frasertsmith @officialavelino @tom_warriors Lilli Chin @scroobiuspipyo and @housegospelchoir Check out the full film @greenpeaceuk or follow the link in my bio #DontStop #ClimateCrisis Last week, Crisis supporter @willpoulter visited our Crisis at Christmas warehouse to help get everything ready ahead of the opening of our Christmas services. From sorting food donations, to prepping welcome packs for guests with essential toiletries and warm clothes, to writing Christmas cards, volunteers helped to make sure we’re ready when the doors to our hotels and day centres open this month. Crisis is expecting to help over 7,000 people this Christmas. We’re taking over three hotels in London, providing over 570 people who would otherwise be sleeping rough with a safe and warm place to stay. Day centres will also be opening across the capital to provide essential support to people currently in insecure accommodation, such as hostels and B&Bs. Supporting Crisis can help someone in urgent need start their life beyond homelessness. To donate, click the link in our bio or Will’s. Wondering how you talk to young people about dementia? Our supporter @willpoulter has recorded a special reading of Elmer and the Gift – a storybook adventure where Elmer the Patchwork Elephant helps his Aunt Zelda, who has memory problems, remember a gift she was meant to give him. Alzheimer’s Research UK has teamed up with Andersen Press for the launch of the book, which was written and illustrated by the late David McKee. The paperback also features a special guide from the charity with useful information to help adults talk to children about dementia. To watch Will’s reading, click the link in ours or Will’s bio. A lot of great work is being done to address the male suicide rate which accounts for 75% of suicides in the UK and the important work to destigmatize the conversation about mental health for men must continue. But in the process, it’s important that we don’t overlook the things that disproportionately effect women and address how their experiences online are characterised by a particular scrutiny and a host of unique pressures that put their mental health under extreme undue stress. In response to these issue Deborah is seeking funding to launch Project Phoenix in collaboration with mental health experts and therapists. In her own words “Our mission is to provide a safe space for self-discovery, free from the pressures of social media, fostering mutual empowerment within a like-minded community. Project Phoenix carries a deep symbolism of rebirth and renewal which reflects the process that the girls are going to undergo, shedding negative influences, rising from challenges, and emerging stronger and more resilient, with the understanding that they are amazing just as they are.” Check out the incredible work of @thewomensassociation to date and if you’d like to give as an individual or within your business please click the link in bio. @thewomensassociation https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/project-phoenix-fundraiser?fbclid=PAAabkB9fW4qWW0wqmpswE-RijV3CwLSKqrQWLYFt1gM3LatkybneGrWV3eLw_aem_AWvkH69wdoVB4TPg9gdTVOprSTM21r2SahhEmvNg2O5A4fNtidQ6csm82QQiP57n6uE Please join me in supporting however you can. Since 2003, Movember has built a global men’s health movement, funding more than 1,300 projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support people. Sign up and save lives at Movember.com @movember October 10th is WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY ❤️🧠🌍 If you need help with your mental health, you can find support through @mentalhealthfoundation and via the link in my story (https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/explore-mental-health/get-help) Every 3 minutes, dementia steals a ‘happily ever after’. But research can help change the ending for the millions impacted by this devastating condition and so can you. This new campaign film from @AlzheimersResearchUK, voiced by the incredible Olivia Colman, lays bare the realities of dementia – a reality so many people have experienced and will continue to experience unless we act now. Stand with @alzheimersresearchuk #ForACure by clicking the link in their bio (and mine). Together, we will change the ending. As over 10 million children make the return to school this week, new research from anti-bullying charity The Diana Award @antibullyingpro , reveals 65% of children are scared of going back because they have been bullied. The shocking data comes as half of the children polled said the thought of returning to school makes them anxious, while 33% said it made them want to cry. More than three quarters of young students say they have been bullied at some stage in the past, with 69% suffering from teasing or name calling. Of the students polled, 42% agree their school is not effective at stopping bullying. It has driven almost half of parents to consider changing schools due to the torment their children suffer. Over a quarter of parents have thought of homeschooling as an alternative and nearly one in five have considered simply not sending them back. It’s high time we stopped overlooking the issue of bullying and that we recognise the importance of schools being a safe and happy place for young people during their developmental years. Become an ambassador and select your school for the antibullying programme #backtobullying #backtoschool The Reuse Research campaign for @CRUKShops is funding life saving work by encouraging people to donate clothes they don’t wear anymore…Improving the chance someone else can completely reimagine, restyle, or repurpose them; all while raising money for vital research to beat cancer! It’s all quite close to home for me. I have a lot of people in my life who mean a lot, whose lives are currently being touched by cancer. I feel so grateful to have the chance to support @cr_uk ‘s vital work in this way. The team at @marvel_UK and @princestrust have partnered up to offer young people a chance to get creative in the ‘Get Started in Product Design with Marvel’ programme. They designed a series of incredible merch with the support and guidance of the Disney designers. This programme offers talented young people an insight into an industry that might otherwise feel hard to reach, so it’s important to show practical ways in which they could pursue a career in the creative sector. It was amazing to meet these young people, to witness their creativity first hand and to see them exploring a potential pathway to industry. The collection is fantastic and takes inspiration from the trademark 80s theme of The Guardians of the Galaxy and street art. You can see all their designs now at @shopDisney. #MarvelxPrincesTrust #SupportTheArts In countries around the world, LGBTQI people face violence and oppression simply because of who they love or who they are. @rainbowrailroad help them get to safety. Rainbow Railroad was founded in 2006 as a volunteer-run organization by a diverse group of LGBTQI activists and human rights defenders who wanted to do more to address the levels of violence LGBTQI people face worldwide. Their name harkens back to the Underground Railroad – a network of activists in the 19th century, who assisted Black folks escape enslavement in the American South. This Pride Month, Rainbow Railroad is working to help more LGBTQI people escape state-sponsored violence and persecution. Please join me in donating whatever you can via the link below (also in bio) and your donation will be matched dollar for dollar by a generous ally to the organisation up to $50,000! https://www.rainbowrailroad.org/pride623-1 #pridemonth 🌈 ❤️ Last month I attended a @migratefuluk Cookery Class where I had the huge pleasure of meeting one of their chefs, Helen who is migrant from Eritrea @helu_helu2 We learned how to make a delicious vegan meal, about Eritrean food culture and about Helen herself: after being imprisoned for escaping Eritrea’s forced military service and fleeing to the UK, she is happy in London. She has friends and family around her, has received her refugee status & right to work. Helen teaches Migrateful Classes regularly and was a truly amazing person to learn from! . Migrateful is a charity which supports asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in their journey to independence, integration and employment. They do this by preparing them to lead classes where they share their culture and traditional cuisine to public and private groups. . As well as supporting its chefs, the organisation’s mission is to correct harmful narratives about immigration. If you’d like to find out more about booking a class or volunteering check out www.migrateful.org I can not recommend doing one of their classes with a group of loved ones, friends or colleagues more!!! Thank you Chef Helen! ❤️ 🧠 ❤️ The pandemic severely disrupted health services and derailed progress towards ending HIV, tuberculosis and malaria. It also triggered an increase in the prevalence of anxiety and depression, contributing to an already growing mental health crisis. 1 in 5 adults experience mental illness every year, and nearly half of all adults will experience it at some point in their lives. In this episode of the @theglobalgoals podcast @gailgallie and @loyisomadinga dive deep into the often-overlooked topic of mental health when discussing the Global Goal to good health and well-being (Goal 3). They spoke with @abcholmes and myself about what might be contributing to skyrocketing rates of anxiety in young people and the subject of bullying as a contributing factor. I enjoyed this conversation so much and learned a great deal from it. Given the energy crisis and the rising cost of living, @friends_earth have identified what’s causing the problem, who’s hit hardest and the solutions to lower our heating bills and our emissions that harm our planet. They’re powering a new grassroots movement, bringing together different groups that are united by a common goal – warm homes that don’t cost the earth. Friends of The Earth have also helped educate me on some of the changes I can make, for the sake of the environment in a way that is considerate of how climate change effects people on a global scale and in differing ways.
