Will Poulter Instagram – Through her incredible work at @thewomensassociation and @thegirlsassociation my friend @deborahbwilliams_ has identified that a growing amount of women and girls are experiencing a number of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, body dysmorphia, eating disorders and suicidal ideation due to messaging and images online and on social media in particular. A lot of great work is being done to address the male suicide rate which accounts for 75% of suicides in the UK and the important work to destigmatize the conversation about mental health for men must continue. But in the process, it’s important that we don’t overlook the things that disproportionately effect women and address how their experiences online are characterised by a particular scrutiny and a host of unique pressures that put their mental health under extreme undue stress. In response to these issue Deborah is seeking funding to launch Project Phoenix in collaboration with mental health experts and therapists. In her own words “Our mission is to provide a safe space for self-discovery, free from the pressures of social media, fostering mutual empowerment within a like-minded community.
