This is MEGHALAYA 🇮🇳
It has one of the world’s LAST existing Matrilineal Societies.
Which means-
1. Kids carry forward their MOTHER’s names
2. Men move into their Wives’ homes
3. Property belongs to the women, enabling a sense of SECURITY
4. There is NO Dowry
5. Marriage proposals are carried out with consent and respect
6. Women spearhead agriculture and social initiatives
While Matrilineal societies are all of the above, here’s what they’re NOT-
It’s not Matriarchy. It didn’t start because
one gender wants to dominate the other.
It’s about playing to your strengths and creating a balanced society.
It’s about celebrating the existence of both Men and Women.
What a fascinating way of living, and we’re here for it!
Imagine if all of India celebrated women the way Meghalaya does? 🥹
