Anna Shaffer Instagram – To post this again, two years later, verbatim, feels sort of unbelievable. I feel gaslit by my country and its government. Not it my name. Cease fire now. I am a mixed race Jewish South-African and my dad spent a year as a baby in Israel with his father who believed that it should be the Jewish state. My grandmother forced them back to SA and they eventually settled in England where he met my mum, from Black Zulu farmland South Africa, and we were brought up in a secular household. Born from this is war, violence, destruction. You can be proud of who you are and the tapestry of your history and honour the lives lost from the trauma of it’s past, without thinking it is just to inflict such heinous and unfathomable terror on another race. Being pro Palestinian does not make you anti-Semitic. It makes you a humanitarian. Free Palestine. I’m not trying to be provocative or inflammatory but I am sharing my heritage with you because I think it’s important to scream that despite that history, IN spite of that history, there is no other stance to take.
