Check out what happened to my body when I cut back on my HIIT training in favor of a mix of Pilates & low impact (heavy) resistance training. 🤯
I’m less exhausted from my workouts, but I still FEEL all the work. My strength & balance have improved and a lot of the imbalances I’ve been dealing with from scoliosis and injuries are starting to correct. It might not look like a big difference to some, it’s about 3-4 pounds and a lot of inflammation. But THE WIN & what my goal is/was, was how I feel.
Let me be clear, this does not mean HIIT is bad or that I don’t like HIIT. It means that at different stages & phases we need different things for our bodies. You have to be willing to change it up, to adapt, to try new things and most importantly to never give up. If somethings not working ask why? Be honest with yourself & continue to look for the answers. For me, my hormones had been out of balance, especially my cortisol. This switch up is really helping my body recover from excessive stress while keeping it fun, interesting & challenging.

Someone asked me if I’ve been doing anything different lately bc I’m looking super strong & fit (their words). First, thank you ☺️ Yes, ive really been working to improve my hormone balance, with that I’ve changed my nutrition a little and my workouts. I’ve also really been working on my stress management, since that is probably the biggest thing that has thrown my whole system out of balance.
For stress management, I’ve had to release some people from my life no matter how hard that is. I’ve also completely stopped working on the weekends and have embraced down time, fun and relaxation.
When it comes to nutrition, I’ve focused a great deal on balancing my blood sugar. If you’ve ever craved sugar or carbs throughout the day, needed a nap after meals, or experienced an afternoon dip in energy, then you’ve seen some of the signs that your blood sugar needs help. I’ve reduced my carb intake slightly, and focused on getting my carbs from veggies, some fruit & a small amount of complex carbs like potatoes, rice, and beans.
Ive also worked on clearing my detox pathways. your liver, which is responsible for breaking down excess hormones in the bloodstream, as well as your digestive system, which eliminates those hormones from the body, sometimes need a little extra support. Lots of water, cruciferous veggies, minimal alcohol consumption & infrared sauna.
Workouts: I’m doing less cardio & more heavy weight training & Pilates. It’s a great balance, feels so good and has lessened the stress response on my body.

Ladies let’s talk exercise & hormones. Exercise is an excellent way to help balance hormones. Hormonally, oxytocin increases when you exercise. Exercise helps the body consume cortisol and other stress hormones including epinephrine & norepinephrine which helps decrease blood pressure, heart rate & anxiety. Exercise also makes your muscles more receptive to insulin, so you’re less likely to become insulin resistant. We also release endorphins when we exercise- the feel-good hormones, which have been shown to have an effect in regulating blood pressure & body temp. They may also play a role in helping regulate appetite.
Other benefits of exercise:
Stronger heart
Greater bone density
More energy & stamina
A natural way to detox the body
Healthier body composition
So what’s the best type of exercise? This one is a bit more tricky. If you’ve been under chronic stress for a long period of time which can cause a whole host of hormone problems, then you’re best bet would be something like yoga, Pilates, or walking. If you don’t think chronic stress is one of your main issues then you can go for a more intense type like cardio, HIIT, or heavy weight training. Ideal the best type is the one that you enjoy, that you’ll stick with, and doesn’t leave you feeling like you got hit by a truck after. Try something new!!!! I like to mix it up these days with Pilates, weight training and a little HIIT.
You can use these 5 moves as a great way to work your entire body. If you use light weights go for 15-20 reps, medium weights, go for 12-15 reps, heavy weights 8-10 reps. 2-3 sets.

STRESS…it’s a B!tch am I right?! At least it has been to me. It’s one thing to have an acute stress reaction (fight or flight) to deal with a threatening situation, it’s another to live in a perpetual state of stress. That’s been me, pretty much my entire life and I’ve suffered the consequences of it. It wreaked havoc on my gut & hormone health. Here’s what I’ve learned and one change I’ve made to help manage my stress & its effects on my body.
Elevated cortisol for too long or persistent stress can damage the body. It increases acidity & throws the gut flora out of balance which can lead to intestinal permeability. It can also lead to rapid aging, depression & burnout. Secretion of high amounts of cortisol robs the body of DHEA, progesterone, estrogen & testosterone. The net effect is increased glucose production (which can lead to insulin resistance), decreased lean muscle mass production, and a low sex drive.
Cool I’ll just be here stressed about being stressed 🤦🏻♀️🤪
What does this have to do with matcha?🍵 well I love coffee, the taste, the ritual, the quiet time of enjoying it. BUT too much caffeine can lead to increased stress levels which cause your adrenal glands to work harder. It can also lead to anxiety, insomnia, digestive issues, muscular breakdown, & fatigue. So if you’re already in a chronic state of stress, drinking coffee might not be the best idea.
I switched to matcha almost 3 years ago, matcha does contain caffeine BUT L-Theanine in matcha is thought to reduce levels of cortisol by creating alpha waves in the brain that produce a state of calm & relaxation. I still enjoy coffee now and then but I’ve felt a huge difference in my anxiety from switching to matcha.

Looking for a fun, fall activity today? Try making these air fryer cinnamon apple rings 🍎 They only take a few minutes & they taste like apple pie but without weighing you down.
Ingredients for the batter:
4 apples cored (I used honey crisp)
1 cup GF all purpose flour
1 egg
1/2 cup milk of choice (I used unsweetened almond)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground ginger
Ingredients for the topping
2 tablespoons coconut sugar
2 tablespoons cinnamon
Directions
-combine dry ingredients for batter (flour, cinnamon, nutmeg & ginger. Whisk to combine.
-in a separate bowl whisk the egg, then add milk and whisk again.
-add the dry ingredients to the wet, whisk to combine.
– in a separate shallow bowl, combine coconut sugar & cinnamon
-dip each apple ring in the batter, let excess drip off, then dip in the sugar & cinnamon mixture. Place in air fryer.
– air fry at 380 degrees for 10 minutes, I like to do 5 minute increments & check on them to make sure they aren’t getting over cooked.
Let cool & enjoy! 😋
