Brittany Packnett Instagram – purple is royalty.

of all the days of Black church pomp and circumstance, the years the auxiliary selected purple for the theme were always my favorite. the scripture would always be about our royal posture as children of the King.

My daddy wore a purple velvet robe sometimes. My mother has a closet full of purple First Lady suits with hats to match. A Purple Sunday was a regal Sunday. A grand Sunday. A very very Black Sunday, indeed.

It is why, through every iteration, from Alice Walkerā€™s earth-shifting novel, to the film that made @oprah & @whoopigoldberg movie stars, to the musical that made tears well, to this new, old, stunningly beautiful take by our friend @blitzambassador, to those Purple Sundays of celebration, I have always loved the color purple and The Color Purple.

If it ā€œpisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field and donā€™t notice it,ā€ then it has to anger Him when Black folks arenā€™t seen in the fullness of our royalty.

Even in our most destitute of times, when the world is cruel and a sisterā€™s strength is all we can rely on, when the fist of oppression keeps pounding so hard a man must seek redemption instead of transferred harm, when our stories go unheard and our voices are silencedā€¦

We Royalty.

Thank you @jotakaeaddy for making sure our crowns are seen. Thank you @daniebb3 for showing that our gifts are worth more than gold. Thank you @tasiasword for fixing Celieā€™s crown and ours. Thank you @Oprah and Ms. Walker for making sure the ground we walk is always fitting of our nobility. Thank you @amberjmike for still being here šŸ«¶šŸ¾.

Thank you to my 39 years for giving me a body I love and @hanifa for helping me feel my most regal yet. And thank you to the beautiful family that gathered last night to support our visions on screen and off.

My heart needed yesterday desperately.

ā€œAnd us so happy. Matter of fact, I think this the youngest us ever felt. Amen.ā€ -aw. 1982.
