When I walked over to presenter Takeshi Kitano to give him the first Golden Horse Award of the evening, it felt suddenly very hazy in my mind. Wait, am I actually here, walking over to Takeshi Kitano whose ending smile in “Merry Christmas Mister Lawrence” has entranced me for years? Am I actually on stage with the same person who directed the beautiful “The Summer of Kikujiro” which also had the most amazing soundtrack of all time? It was quite intimidating standing next to icons who have made movies that have had such an impression on me, such as Brigitte Lin, Sylvia Chang, or Ang Lee. So many of these movies I discovered them when I was a teenager, when I spent my weekends in the movie street rue Champollion in Paris, binge-watching Asian movies, projecting myself in these stories which fascinated me. That teenager sprang back up that night and she didn’t loose a glimpse of it. I hope that I can keep on acting and be part of this storytelling world for a very long time.

重新看了經典電影「莎蓮與茱莉浪遊記」之後,我再次被這個故事的美好友誼迷住。對茱莉和莎蓮來說,到處都有歡樂、魔法與激發彼此想像力的事情。 原本不相識的兩個女孩,在一個空蕩蕩的夏天巴黎街頭偶然間相遇,而發現彼此之間很有默契,很快就塑造自己旖旎的環境。在她們相遇後不久,他們進入了一個處於平行時空的奇幻「鬼屋」。裡面有位不友善的霸氣父親、為了爭寵得到這位父親的愛而不停地競爭的兩位女性,和臨死的小女孩。 一邊有兩位充滿敵意的女人在競爭,另一邊是兩位女主角的緊密友誼,這兩組角色的差異,可以看出莎蓮和茱莉有多麼討厭塑料情感和父權社會。 整部電影描述相當可貴的女性友誼。想當然地每一場畫面都通過貝克得爾測驗 Rewatching « Celine and Julie go boating » (or Phantom Ladies over Paris) is always a good idea when you feel like getting a shot of fantasy, freedom and wilderness. The writers, who also play the lead roles, spent one summer writing and shooting a film that ambitioned to portray all the female characters of Cinema. The story is about Julie and Celine, who after an accidental encounter (a book, a boa scarf, and the opening of Alice in Wonderland) become immediately friends. Then begins a beautiful friendship led by joy, playfulness, magic and imagination. When Celine and Julie enter ‘the other house’ located 7bis rue du Nadir aux Pommes, they stumble into a haunted house in which two swooning women are vying for the attention of a widowed patriarch. Celine and Julie are viewers of the creaky melodrama happening before them, they are highly vocal about it and don’t hide when mocking it. What is highlighted, in this parable of movie-watching, is the vain foolishness between the two women that stands out even more when mirrored with Celine and Julie’s joyful closeness. In ‘the other house’, Celine and Julie face the world they have left : a patriarchal world ruled by rivalry between women and classe-dominance. Celine and Julie, through their naivety and sorority, claim loud and clear women emancipation and their refusal of (if not fight against) stereotypes. Noticeable ‘detail’ : every scene passes the Bechdel test. Let me say it again : watching Celine and Julie go boating, is always a good idea.
