🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Controlling the illusion of fire created from water. This artwork was inspired by the practice of controlled burns that we need to support now more than ever. This is only a part of the special experience called A Forest For The Trees created by @gkstudio Open until Labor Day in downtown Los Angeles. @aforestla @pacegallery

Paintings by @m_michaelchow ~O-O- on view at Art Basel Miami @waddingtoncutot Both D22 and Art Miami stubbs.frenchdallas Booth AM213 “Learning from the first c. 30,000 years BC cave painters – nothing is framed in them; nothing flat; nothing meets; the beginning of perspective shaped by mountain form is about coexisting, all in one – wind, water, fire, faraway places, the dead, thunder, pain, light, and the unborn. Caravaggio’s chiaroscuro which forms a new kind of space, defined by darkness as well as by light brought me shadows as a medium, an invisible material that I can sculpt with, that offers a shelter to violence, suffering, longing, and mortality. Cezannian multiple vantage points taught me to ‘walk the painting’, making it a four-dimensional object but it is not imitating anything. It is what it is. Abstraction articulated by the American abstract expressionist period – with the usual suspects like Willem de Kooning and even Franz Kline – is destruction and construction, just like nature itself, moving, disrupting, constructing, making it continuous and at this moment in time. So my paintings are like that, it’s construction and destruction until you have harmony. In my case, I have to take in the whole canon of Western art history, enmesh some Eastern concepts, namely Chinese calligraphy into it and bring it up to date and identify myself internally. You will see everybody in me and nobody in me.” ~O-O~Ⓜ️
