Danai Gurira Instagram – Can’t even begin to express the blessing that was Tuesday night on Broadway! @jjbioh, my dear sister in heritage, in the arts and in Christ, just debuted her phenomenal play #JajasAfricanHairBraiding on Broadway! She is the first Black playwright since 1991 to have a play’s world premiere also be a Broadway premiere. And this play is MAGICAL. Hilarious, heartfelt, and giving voice to women who are never heard, this play is a game-changer. Love seeing the fruits of so much labor come to pass! Look At God!! And then my baby sis @dominiquethorne! KILLING it in this show! SUCH a powerhouse as I say in the video, I am just in awe of what I have witnessed of this young woman since meeting her on #wakandaforever. SO gifted. SKY is the limit! Not to mention the luminosity that is @somimusic making her Broadway debut as are many of the incredible Black women actresses populating this stage and the Black women creatives behind the scene. @nikiyamathis and those wigs! Characters in themselves! DON’T walk RUN to check out this beautiful, moving, thoroughly entertaining show.
