It was truly humbling to receive the Philanthropy Award, because for me, as a Humanitarian, it is rooted in witnessing the resilience, courage and the strength of spirit of so many other women. Women who may never stand in front of a microphone or have their photo in a magazine. Women who I have met on my travels over the last 5 years as Goodwill Ambassador with UNHCR @refugees
These women have entrusted me with their stories, shared some of the most devastating points in their journey, and have compelled me to amplify their voices.

“There have been moments when I’ve been listening to someone’s story and it has just broken me. Writing in a journal helps metabolise the experience and gives me time to reflect on it – it dissipates the pain, but it also makes me more accountable. As an actor, you’re a vessel for somebody else’s story, and that’s true of the work I do with UNHCR as well, I’m taking on the heart of someone’s journey and trying to convey it to an audience. When I’m acting, my job is to move people, and here I’m also saying, hey, you’re involved, you’re not just a bystander – we’re all part of this human family.”
