I’ve been singing this song with @thebenjaminrice for the last 3 years. Still feels incredibly surreal to know that it’s out in the world now. Thank you to everyone that has gone to see it, shown it love and have come up to me personally to tell me how much these songs resonate with them. This wish was the first song I wrote for wish in 2020. It was the song that started my entire journey here. I wrote it at the height of the pandemic when everything felt so uncertain and so scary. I had moved back to iowa then and was going through so many personal things at the time. Honestly, When I look back on all of it now (and for those who know what those personal things were) it all feels so serendipitous to me. I was given an opportunity to write a song about hope at a time when I really needed some of my own. I’ll never forget when Tom called me a couple weeks after I had sent it in.. my mom next to me.. in the dead of winter in iowa.. melting to the floor and uncontrollably crying when they called me and told me they were going to take this chance on me. Because of this song. It’s still surreal. This song means so much to me. Wish means so much to me.
Dear @thebenjaminrice ever since I met you nine years ago, I knew you were going to be in my life for a very long time. You’ve been there for and written songs with me through every single album I’ve ever released. Seen me through so many highs and lows. Have cheered me on and supported me at times that I had fully given up on myself. You’ve been there for every major heartbreak and every accomplishment that I’ve ever had. so it only seemed right that when I was asked to take on something so monumental, to have you right by my side. I’ve loved every existential crisis, every delirious night, every inside joke and every song we created throughout wish. Your heart, talent and humor are so exceptional and I’m so happy that the world gets to soak that in, as I have for almost a decade. Not only do I get to write songs with you, but you’re also one of my best friends in the whole wide world. I absolutely loved creating these songs with you. Thank you for being one of the best people that I know. For allowing me to be myself and for giving me the space to try and fail and try again. I love you my dear friend. ❤️ #wish
How I woke up today knowing people finally get to see Wish 🌟
WISH IS OUT TODAY! Can not believe @thebenjaminrice and I got to be apart of this process. I’ve gotten to love on the making of this movie for so long and today it’s yours!!! I hope you find pieces of yourself in wish. That Wish makes you feel seen in some way. That it makes you laugh. That it makes you cry. Like it has done for all of us who have spent countless hours pouring all of our love into this beautiful movie. It’s a story about love, connection, unity, friendship, family and hope.. things I feel we could really use in this world today. ❤️ I truly hope you love it ❤️ in theatres now!!!!!! 🥹

Last night I got to celebrate three and a half years in the making at the London premiere of @disneywishmovie ! this has been the most beautiful, challenging and fulfilling time of my life. Thank you to the entire team of wish for creating such a safe and familial space for all of us to create In. I’m so excited for people to see this film that so many people that love Disney and Disneys legacy were able to make. ❤️ 📸 @alan_d_west
