Another trip around the sun for @taylorswift. I’ve known her since 2009 and I am amazed at the woman she’s become. Brilliant at business, songwriting, boosting local economies and keeping her head on her shoulders after almost being brought to her knees by the celebrity machine. I’m thrilled for her happiness. And I’m excited to celebrate her at her party tonight. (JK my invitation just have gotten lost in the mail!) 🤪🤣 Share what most impresses you about the talented Ms. Swift below!! ⬇️

Calling all sensitive skin sufferers! 🙋♀️ I’ve had eczema ever since I was a little girl, and as I’ve gotten older, it’s started to flare up again. I also deal with allergic contact dermatitis — safe to say, I have to be careful about what I put on my face. My search for treatment led me to @cherylleemdisme. Her products have really helped. I asked Lee a lot of questions about what causes eczema and how to calm flare-ups. You can find all of her tips and tricks at the link in my bio. 🙌 (I can’t believe I let my team post this picture. Good Lord 🥴)

This week marks the 11th anniversary of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. 26 people were killed, 20 of them children between 6 and 7 years old. I covered the aftermath of that shooting. It’s something I will never forget. One of the families I got to know well were the Bardens. Daniel was 7 years old and the weapon the shooter used left his face beyond recognition. Yes, take that in. Mark and Jackie Barden are co-founders of @sandyhookpromise which works to implement gun violence prevention programs in schools and enact policies to reduce these horrific mass shootings. The Bardens are exceptional people, as are so many of the Sandy Hook families that were impacted. Last week, we had the honor of attending a concert organized by @artistforaction talented musicians who are devoting their time to this same issue. People like my friends @sherylcrow @mrpeterframpton and @kevinbacon among others. The third slide shows Natalie Barden, who lost her brother when she was just 10 years old. (James the oldest Barden child was 12). When Natalie sang One More Day, it was so poignant. I will never forget knocking on the Barden’s door the Sunday after this happened. They welcomed me in. A Christmas tree was up—I saw Daniel’s homemade ornament hanging on it. It was a typical holiday scene, except their youngest child had been brutally murdered. I so admire what the Bardens have done with their profound grief. Thank you for your friendship Mark and Jackie. For the work you’ve done, for using your voices. And for using the power of music to deliver your message. (Mark is the guitar player in the pork pie hat—is that what it’s called?) Please remember to support efforts to reduce gun violence. There are so many great organizations to follow and get involved with: @sandyhookpromise @artistforaction @everytown @momsdemand @giffords_org @brady_center Get involved in your community. And support candidates who believe in common sense gun laws. Don’t wait for a tragedy to impact your family. Do all you can to prevent it. Thank you.❤️
🚨The United Nations General Assembly has voted to demand an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in war-torn Gaza, in a rebuke to the United States which last week blocked a similar resolution in the smaller Security Council.
According to @cnn, a majority of 153 nations voted for the ceasefire resolution in the General Assembly’s emergency special session Tuesday, while 10 voted against and 23 abstained.
Tuesday’s brief resolution calls for a ceasefire, for all parties to comply with international law, and for humanitarian access to hostages as well as their “immediate and unconditional” release. It notably contains stronger language than an October vote in the assembly that had called for a “sustained humanitarian truce.”
While a general assembly vote is politically significant and is seen as wielding moral weight, it is not binding, unlike a Security Council resolution.

🎉 Drumroll, please! 🥳 I’m breaking down the 2023 Word of the Year, according to the Oxford University Press. The more you know!
🚨Jack Smith, the special counsel prosecuting former President Donald J. Trump on charges of plotting to overturn the 2020 election, asked the Supreme Court on Monday to rule on Mr. Trump’s argument that he is immune from prosecution.
According to the @nytimes, the request was unusual in two ways: Mr. Smith asked the justices to rule before an appeals court acted, and he urged them to move with exceptional speed.
“This case presents a fundamental question at the heart of our democracy: whether a former president is absolutely immune from federal prosecution for crimes committed while in office or is constitutionally protected from federal prosecution when he has been impeached but not convicted before the criminal proceedings begin,” Mr. Smith wrote.
He added that speed was of the essence, as Mr. Trump’s appeal of a trial judge’s ruling rejecting his claim of immunity suspends the trial of the charges against him. The trial is scheduled to begin on March 4 in Federal District Court in Washington.
The judge, Tanya S. Chutkan, rejected Mr. Trump’s sweeping claims that he enjoyed “absolute immunity” from the election interference indictment because it was based on actions he took while he was in office.

Why does there seem to be a generational divide when it comes to attitudes about Israelis and Palestinians? An @npr/ @newshour / @marist national poll from October 11 (just four days after the Hamas attack on Israel), showed that only 48% of Millennials and Gen Z’ers (1981-2012) said the U.S. government should support Israel, compared to compared to 63% of Gen Xers (1965-1980), 83% of baby boomers (1946-1964) and 86% from the Silent and Greatest Generations (Born in 1901-1945).In a wide ranging conversation with @voxdotcom’s @zackbeauchamp, I asked him for his take. By now, you’ve probably watched (or at least heard about) the new film May December — which is really good, BTW. This star-studded drama — which is loosely inspired by a disturbing true story — features a brilliant cast composed of @juliannemoore, @natalieportman, and @melton. I caught up with the actors and crew to discuss the challenges of portraying such flawed, nuanced characters. Don’t miss our fascinating convo at the link in my bio!

🚨The House voted on Wednesday to formally open an impeachment inquiry into President Biden, pushing forward with a yearlong G.O.P. investigation that has failed to produce evidence of anything approaching high crimes or misdemeanors.
Per @apnews reporting, the 221-212 party-line vote put the entire House Republican conference on record in support of an impeachment process that can lead to the ultimate penalty for a president: punishment for what the Constitution describes as “high crimes and misdemeanors,” which can lead to removal from office if convicted in a Senate trial.
Authorizing the monthslong inquiry ensures that the impeachment investigation extends well into 2024, when Biden will be running for reelection and seems likely to be squaring off against former President Donald Trump — who was twice impeached during his time in the White House.
The decision to hold a vote came as House Speaker Mike Johnson and his leadership team faced growing pressure to show progress in what has become a nearly yearlong probe centered around the business dealings of Biden’s family members. While their investigation has raised ethical questions, no evidence has emerged that Biden acted corruptly or accepted bribes in his current role or previous office as vice president.
Ahead of the vote, Johnson called it “the next necessary step” and acknowledged there are “a lot of people who are frustrated this hasn’t moved faster.“
