LAST CALL FOR THE TRUTH is just that -about looking at ourselves and finding our way out from a rut -or a difficult period of time in a life. But I’m not sure that many have picked up on the larger metaphor of our country needing to grow up and find it’s way to a better place than it is now -before everything really does go to hell. “Now it’s time to take the last cab home To my little place just up the street Because the night it ain’t so young anymore It’s just another ride in the backseat” Back at it again tonight for #22DaysOfLu with Christmas Tears 🎄🔔 Don’t forget to to head to the merch shop to get this CD/LP free with purchase of another CD/LP 🤘 On top of the killer sale we’re gifting you (check the website) we’re going to be doing #22DaysofLu 🎁 where we dive deeper into some of the lyrics from the latest album, Stories From A Rock N Roll Heart. We’ll also be throwing in some clips of Lu’s Jukebox: Have Yourself A Rockin’ Little Christmas to keep it festive 😉🎄🤘 Let’s start with track one. LET’S GET THE BAND BACK TOGETHER. This song is about that disconnection that we all experienced during the long lonely days of covid. It simply speaks to the need to reconnect with the people we care most about -and how maybe we had taken that for granted previously. This song was an absolute no brainer to start the record… and given that the holidays are upon us, what better time to get our bands back together. “Just like that we were lost in the days And time just kept on slipping away We see each other every couple of years Funerals and weddings, laughs and tears” Back at it for another one with #22DaysofLu 🎅🎄 I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm ❄️❤️🔥 Get the full Christmas record with a purchase of any other album! Link in bio 🔗 NEW YORK COMEBACK This song is about being counted out -when it feels like all odds are against you. There were people who thought Lu might not be able to come back from her stroke, so there definitely is a personal element to this one. And of course there is an aspect of our country coming back from the long night of covid. “Let me have the final say One last chance to do it my way One last shot, one last swing One final song to sing” Have yourself a merry little Christmas 😏❤️🔥 What’s at the top of your list this year? #22DaysofLu STOLEN MOMENTS. This song ends side 1 of the vinyl on a slightly reflective, somber note. Have you ever been somewhere by yourself and in an idle moment you think of that person that you’ve lost and will never see again? And yes this song was inspired by the loss of our friends Tom Petty and David Bianco -we will never forget them. “Driving down Sunset I’m stuck in traffic With the sun coming in from the west So I cover my eyes And I wait for the light to change And I think about you It’s kinda strange But I think about you” Was in heaven… I mean Mexico with @wilcoskybluesky 🌞🏝️ had a great time discussing my book with @waxa_katie Give the gift of Rock N Roll! Link in bio 🔗 ***with the exception of the Coral Springs date which will go on sale 12/1 (don’t worry, we’ll remind you 😉) THIS IS NOT MY TOWN. This is another one with layers of depth in the meaning. One level is about how the places we grew up in and influenced us, change for the worse and they no longer resemble the place where we grew up. On a larger level, this is also about the current state of the country and how it also has changed -and not for the better. “They say you can’t go home again You can’t go home again Nothing’s the same as it was back then You can’t go home again” HUM’S LIQUOR. In some ways this is could be what Lucinda’s song (and Miller Williams’ poem) Compassion is about, when it says “Who knows what goes on down there where the spirit meets the bone?” The sad protagonist in the song is struggling with the damage that he suffered as child -a secret hidden damage that no one knows about. He is another character who needs music as a respite for a painful existence. Unfortunately, it is not enough. “Got his Jack and headed back To bang on his guitar And drink away another day Hit it hard and hit it harder” JUKEBOX. This would be one of the cornerstones of the record, as it relates to music saving us from lonely and desperate times. Fill up the jukebox and get carried away with your favorite songs. It is based on Lucinda’s favorite jukebox at PJ Clark’s Pub, next to Lincoln Center in New York City. From Muddy Waters to Bruce Springsteen and more -she loved to fill up that jukebox and close down the place. “They’ve got an old Wurlitzer, it’s a work of art And I’ve got a handful of quarters And I know how to ease my lonely heart With Patsy Cline and Muddy Waters” #22DaysofLu ROCK N ROLL HEART. On one hand this is a fun little song about the power of rock n roll to change a life… but on a deeper level we had recently read an article somewhere that was talking about how so much has changed in the music business. That it’s very hard now for someone to pick up a guitar and lift themselves up by their boot straps -or in this case, guitar strap. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention that many years ago we saw an interview with Bruce Springsteen, where he said that rock n roll reached down into his house and pulled him out. That’s what music did for Lucinda also. So Bruce, thanks for the line and thanks so much for singin’ on this one -you killed it. “Rock and roll reached down into my house Reached right down and pulled me out Talked to me and I knew then Whaat I was gonna be all about” Presale code for the upcoming “Don’t Tell Anybody The Secrets” tour, 10AM local time! *** both NOLA shows & Ponte Vedra are not “Don’t Tell Anybody The Secrets” shows with no visuals & less stories, more akin to a typical Lucinda show 🤘 6 on Best 25 Country/Americana Albums of 2023 & 86 on 100 Best Albums of The Year 🥳 thank you @rollingstone and everyone contributed to this album!
