What a fun and inspiring afternoon! I was invited to the Latino Leaders Luncheon by my dear friend Tony Plana. The Latino Leaders Network was founded by The Honorable Mikey Ibarra who hosted the event honoring Tom Perez, senior advisor to the president and secretary of Education Miquel Cardona. To say it was an honor to be there would be an understatement. So much power and achievement in the room and it was filled to capacity. All Latinos! I felt such pride. It was one of the best events I’ve ever been to. I remember the first time I saw Ron Cephas’ work. It was in the Labyrinth’s production of Jesus hopped the A train. I was blown away by his intensity, his craftsmanship, his grace and talent. I’d always dreamed of working with great actors and here he was…in the flesh. I say I saw him at Second stage in CLyde’s and was so excited. Again, hoping to work with him. I’m saddened by the loss, for his friends and family. The fact that I’ll never get to work with him makes me sadder still. You put your heart into a scene and it winds up on the cutting room floor. But sometimes it doesn’t matter, because what you create working together, how you feel while you’re doing the work is sometimes THE most important thing.
