Veeram: “Aa samayathu Ravana…” *
An incantation that prepares the actor to assume the role of Ravana, even as it reminds us that the actor and the character are separate entities.
The Indian tradition of acting distinguishes between the individual, the actor and the character. This distinction allows one to be a kadhapatra — a vessel for the character. It empowers the individual as an actor, allowing one to maintain a healthy separation from the psyche of the character.
To explore the sentiment of Veeram (Valour), Guruji taught us the choreography to an excerpt from Kailasodharanam. Here, the actor embodies the fierce and mighty demon king Ravana as he first appraises, then lifts, and finally tosses Mount Kailasa up into the skies.
* ”At that time, Ravana…”

Ammakutti ❤️ With each passing year, I see more of her in me. Pictured here at our comfiest best, being the bona fide homebodies we are.
Last night as I was heading to bed and Amma was ironing her clothes for a trip, I made an offhand remark about missing a simple Dal Tadka. When I woke up this morning, she had already left. And this is what I found in the kitchen. She had woken up early to make me some Dal before she set off.
Her everyday acts of love sometimes take my breath away.
The biggest brat I have ever loved. She is a possessive, jealous bully who enjoys destroying things on a whim. She is also a funny, vocal diva who will scold you for touching her and then bestow cuddles when you least expect it. When you’re this pretty, I guess you can get away with anything.

Leaving this here. In case the universe is listening 🌸
May we all know this feeling well ✨

Some friendships harbour a gentle, life-affirming force that you can count on regardless of the time and distance that separate you. They are the kind that provide the strength to chuckle while you eviscerate your shadow selves over an ice cream cone. The kind where you sense an easy reciprocity that is comforting. Where you know you are seen and loved — warts and all.
Here’s to the quiet friendships that carry the weight of life 🌸
