There are a few ways to land back into your home country…🙃 Big thanks @theprojecttv for giving space to this topic. Hilariously, straight after, as I walked back through the city, I ran into some of my favourite Australian minds/creatives: @senatorbriggs (who’d messaged me an hour earlier 🤷🏽♀️👊), @nashedgerton @dearindira and @andrewquilty … something weird ass in the air!! Perhaps a tap on the shoulder to tell me I’m wrong!
Dad came up/down to Sydney today in his full spac filler crusted clobber to help me pack up my life into a storage shed. We dropped some books and kids toys at various shops/St Vinnies around Bondi and Dad was carrying a yoga mat I retrieved as we went to find him a vanilla milkshake 😂 and I said OMG YOU ARE SO BONDI RIGHT NOW. And he said, wait, and asked to borrow a takeaway coffee cup off a stranger walking past… et voila, the guy has ARRIVED 👊. @gertrudeandalice Gertrude & Alice Cafe Bookstore

I stand by my commitment to try my best to not add to the polarisation destroying the world, that is leading to Islamic hate and anti-semitism and the uncertain news verification and defensive cancelling and online nastiness. In the current climate it doesn’t take much to stoke the dangerous, tribal bifurcation that creates our crises in the first place. I will not play into such forces. I feel a profound responsibility not to.
AND…I must raise my hand, my voice, and say, this must stop. Staying quiet for a bit is appropriate, and then it is not. We must discern. As I wrote on my @substackinc last week, we, the bewildered, despairing General Public (and the doctors), must “push for the humanity of a ceasefire, even if the slogan is somewhat naive. This is what good members of the GP do – we push for simple, pure moral principles and have to rely on our leaders to then find the compromise and work through the complicated middle ground. I personally feel if we don’t call for a ceasefire, we do lose our humanity. It goes beyond the politics for me now.”
I share this compassionate message from a Doctors Without Borders medic, which I feel speaks to our humanity, not the tribalism. I will continue to share messages that might better steer us to peace.
I’m turning off comments. And I’m not using hashtags. As part of my commitment, above. But feel to quietly share this with ur mates.
If you want to understand my position and approach to navigating this subject, see my posts at sarahwilson.substack.com … where we have a calm conversation about it all together (non-discerning attacks are not the vibe).
Family time in Canberra. Girl hugs (there are so few of us in the family), stacks on, “surprise” early birthday lunch with 15 of them (cake made by @scifiwilson with 2/3 of a number “5”…about how old I feel), horse riding gift (siblings claim I remind them of a horse), visited where I grew up, and a few good brothers in their “good shirts”. Big effort made by all ❤️🐴🧚🏻♂️🥰 Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

There aren’t many out there with as wide-ranging knowledge and experience as @_sarahwilson_ , so I was thrilled to sit with her and dig into some of the heavier stuff. From practical tips for managing anxiety to collapsing neoliberal systems to the Dutch practice of “dropping”, this interview has a bit of everything.
Strongly encourage you to check this one and share, especially if you’re interested in mental health or where our culture’s headed. Link in bio to listen to this episode.
(00:00:00) – Intro and Sarah’s defining moment (00:03:54) – What are “diseases of despair”? (00:07:29) – What’s causing the rise of these kinds of deaths? (00:11:32) – The loss of “discerning moral discussions” in the education system (00:16:56) – Sarah’s take on collapse theory and its impact on mental health (00:26:36) – How do we deal with the fracturing of dialogue and society? (00:34:54) – It’s not an anxiety epidemic, it’s a lack of resilience epidemic (00:44:44) – What are some practical ways to work with anxiety? (00:54:08) – Resources for people with a bipolar partner, friend, or family member.
I’m excited to share a special bonus episode on #wildwithsarahwilson this week. It’s a chat that I recorded with the UK podcast A Life More Wild where I talk about the joys of hiking while exploring the picturesque Chilterns area just outside London.
Throughout the recording, I delve into my theories on how and why hiking can be a powerful tool in calming anxiety. And share some wise words from my dear friend Tim. Enjoy 🫶🏼

We end this season of Wild with an ep for the David Brooks fans!! David is both one of America’s best-known conservative commentators (@nytopinion @NPR @theatlantic) and one of its most committed to pushing the case for deep moral discussion (readers of my books probably know I quote his work a lot, particularly around “moral boundaries” and developing character). Today we discuss whether humanism – coming back to moral, generous interactions with others – is the fix for our polarising times. We discuss whether you can be “right” with the Middle East conflict, the best-ever dinner party conversation starters (the only kind I’m interested in playing with), and whether civilizational collapse is preventable. He has ideas… listen via the links in my bio and stories. Enjoy ✌🏼
