Part of an interview with Natalina Yacoub on the show Raheel ( by @nuuarmedia ), which features guests who were displaced by the war that broke out in Sudan this April. Natalina had to leave her home in the capital of Khartoum just two weeks after giving birth to her first child. Among the horrible hardships she’s endured, her accounts of racism are, in many ways, related to the racism that’s fueling a genocide in a separate region of Sudan, in Darfur. It is a violent renewal of the Darfur genocide that began in the 2000s toward certain African ethnic groups (largely of Masalit, Fur, and Zaghawa descent) by armed forces (RSF/Janjaweed & SAF). All those affected by this war—from Khartoum to Darfur to border refugee camps—deserve attention.

The next slides are from SAPA (Sudanese American Physicians Association), who do on-the-ground work as Sudan’s health system is almost fully collapsed.

If you can, please read thru & perhaps donate to help address basic needs of displaced and affected families. Links for Raheel show and SAPA in my stories!

The last slide is a memoir outlining the first iteration of the Darfur genocide. It’s not very long, and is a powerful read that helped me start to comprehend that kind of experience (as much as a book can do that).
