I should have called it something you somehow haven’t to deserve.’ -RF When you pull up stakes and take on the vagabond trail of touring musician, home is a mostly liminal concept or maybe better said moving target. It’s people. It’s my husband. It’s my dogs. It’s the way Smartbar smells before doors when the bar staff are cutting limes for drinks. It’s the way my WHOLE accent comes back the second I touch down south of the mason dixon line. It’s chosen family and friends. And home is of course my parents. Over the last years, my Christmas spirit has taken some real bruises. We lost people. We all did. And there’s been a great big ocean between me and the ones that made it. I miss my mama and them. I want a biscuit that is not a cookie. Call me old fashioned, but something is lost in the airwaves of a FaceTime holiday. So. There are just two shows left before I see my family for Christmas for the first time since COVID. And the shows @smartbarchicago and @itlldoclub themselves are a BIG kind of home. Dallas and Chicago at last. I am GIDDY. I am so grateful for these homecomings. There are so many, so close. I want to go there. I want to be taken in. I don’t deserve it, but I am so very ready to come home. See you soon.
