Today is the birthday of the woman who is the blessing that begat all of my other blessings.
I love you, Hilaria, and I am more grateful for you than anything I have ever known.
Happy birthday.

This is the second in a series of brief clips of former presidents commenting on the realities of the Middle East.
One might assume that US Presidents can speak more candidly once the burdens of directing foreign policy are behind them.
This is George W Bush speaking in October of 2023.
Rest in Peace the great Tommy Smothers…
This is the first in a series of brief clips where former presidents discuss the realities of US policy in the Middle East.
One might assume that US Presidents can speak more candidly once the burdens of directing America’s foreign policy are no longer their responsibility.
This is Jimmy Carter on DEMOCRACY NOW in 2007.
Bill Clinton in 2009.
Just over 7 years out of office, he shares some insights about his efforts to broker a Palestinian state, but the victory of Hamas in the election that unseated Fatah created roadblocks.
Additionally, I realize that emotions run extraordinarily high regarding this issue.
However, many of the comments here are inappropriate. I merely wanted to highlight a small number of clips featuring former US Presidents and their thinking about these issues.
I have no agenda other than to deepen my own understanding of the horrific place that we have arrived at now.
I told him to leave a slice for Santa.
He said, “Nothin’ doin’.”
Even the paper towels tear in this shape.

This week on Here’s The Thing, we revisit a favorite archived episode where I speak with actor Dustin Hoffman. Over the last five decades, he’s stretched and contorted himself into dozens of defining roles, earning recognition as one of the most talented actors in cinema history.
In this 2015 conversation, Hoffman tells me that he savors each new opportunity like it’s the first, and recalls his salad days when he was mis-cast, underestimated, and, on at least one notable occasion, sick on a co-star’s shoe.

This week on Here’s The Thing, we revisit a favorite archived episode where I talk with the late David Crosby. For 50 years, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young performed together, enduring even Crosby’s struggles with addiction and a life-saving liver transplant. Our 2018 conversation reveals his joy and gratitude for his six-decade music career, alongside candid discussions about his challenges, including conflicts within The Byrds and the 2016 Crosby, Stills, and Nash breakup.

This week on Here’s The Thing, we revisit a favorite archived episode where I speak with actress, singer, and Broadway star @audramcdonald. Much like the staggering beauty of her voice, Audra McDonald is impossible to ignore. The only artist to sweep all four acting categories at the Tony’s, she’s the most decorated Broadway star of all time.
Reviews of her award-winning performances overflow with accolades, describing her stage presence as “spellbinding,” “haunting,” and “genius.” But for the California native, things haven’t always been easy. In this 2017 conversation, we discuss McDonald’s getting into Juilliard, making it on Broadway, and the suicide attempt that helped shape who she is today.
