The President of Ecuador has declared a 60 day state of emergency, mobilizing military forces in order to contain the situation. So where is this all coming from? Well, a number of reasons — but last weekend, the leader of Los Choneros “disappeared” from prison. He was known as “the most-wanted prisoner” and the gang he leads is responsible for assassinating an Ecuadorian presidential candidate last year. Since his disappearance madness has unfolded. No surprise that this group is directly tied to the Sinaloa Cartel. This is why I lead the Cartel Task Force in Congress.
