Biased disclaimer as his dad: My son is a sponge and has a great memory. It’s amazing to see hip hop as a multigenerational art form. My wife and I were in 👀 shock & awe that he knew that song… We didn’t know the lyrics – that’s called early childhood development. 🙌🏿
Message to parents: Our brains possess a remarkable ability to make, store, and retrieve memories of music, even when we are not aware of doing so. For example, if you hear a catchy song, you will most likely be able to remember parts of it a few days later. After hearing it several times, you might know it by heart. Think about how much more effort it takes to learn information from a textbook, or to remember the details of day-to-day events in your life.
✏️ Homeschooling tool: If you want to support and increase your child’s memory, create a fun playlist with your kids. Use the tools of music and hip hop to nurture and boost their brain regions and growth! I wish we knew this as kids.
