I’m taking a cue from the GOAT @msmelanielynskey here. As you can see from this questionable old headshot (why the sleeveless tee?!) I’ve been working as an actor for a while now. I’m not exactly sure when I got my @sagaftra card but I was still a teenager so it must’ve been around the time this picture was taken. I’ve been extremely fortunate to work fairly steadily throughout my 23 years in this volatile and ever evolving industry. Work has been waining for me in the last few years though as it has been for many performers. A combination of factors including the pandemic, slowing momentum, plain old aging, changing trends, a pickiness about what roles I accept that I’ve been privileged enough to try and maintain and now this necessary but disruptive reckoning with the forces and factors of corporate greed that have slowly been eroding protections for the workers over the last decade. With so much at stake, not just for me but the entire profession, I feel the vital need to stand strong and proud in solidarity during this strike with my fellow actors/writers/creators and human beings who only wish to be paid fairly for their work and not be replaced by AI. It’s not an unreasonable ask. As the late, great Richard Manuel once sung, “I’m a union man now, all the way.” ✊🏻

My current excitement level about this weekend’s Summer Slay in Asbury Park, NJ can only be expressed through the majesty of dance. I meant to take a cool video at band practice yesterday so I could show off the talented team I have backing me up and entice my followers with content worth craving but because I am me, I forgot to. SAN FRANCISCO! This little number goes out to you. I am setting up shop in your fine city for 4 SOLO SHOWS this month at the historic @clubfugazisf August 17-20. My Mom and Dad have been covering Jesse Fuller’s classic San Francisco Bay Blues for as long as I can remember. It’s probably one of the first songs I ever learned all of the lyrics to. It may age but man alive it never gets old. Come out to my SF shows and you just might get to hear it live in person. Each setlist will be slightly different so why not get tickets to all 4 shows? Back home for a breather after a full throttle 48 hour kick off to my winter tour supporting @banditsontherun. Thank you to @kungfunecktie_bar in Philadelphia and @scoobydoomansion in Washington, D.C. Y’all really showed up! It warmed my heart to see my family and friends from @phillyfolkfest and lovely colleagues from @arenastage. It’s already been so special to meet so many people who saw and were moved by @sweptawaymusical. If night one and night two were any indication, I’ve got a lot to look forward to out on the road. Well heck. That was so much fun. When I was about 10 years old my Dad gave me a copy of Born in the USA on cassette so The Stone Pony is hallowed ground in my book and playing my songs on that stage is a great big thing for me and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to do so. I have so many special memories with friends and family throughout the last decade of my life coming to Asbury Park. Some of my favorite ever. I love that town so much. This is yet another very magical moment down the shore that I will cherish forever. Thank you all for showing up and making it happen. Thanks to @rememberjones for bringing me down to the beach and putting on one heck of a show. Thanks to my insanely gifted and lovely band for rocking so dang hard. Y’all lifted me up and made me feel like a whole lot more than just a summer flame.
