Y’all have got to go see one of my oldest friends @plazadeaubrey in @dannyandthedeepnyc. I haven’t seen Aubrey in a play since we were teenagers doing community theater together back home in Wilmington, Delaware. I was proud as could be watching her make her New York City stage debut in this viscerally powerful production. She is, as ever, a star.
Am I ready for another 8 show week? It matters not for it is upon me regardless.
When we reached the bittersweet end of our world premiere run of @sweptawaymusical at @berkeleyrep in March of 2022, we were all so very hopeful for a remount somewhere at some point but there weren’t any plans in place and 39 years on planet earth and 24 years in the theater have taught me not to hold my breath because you just never know. So I waited. And now here we are. Thus I do not take it at all for granted how lucky we are to be opening the east coast bow of Swept Away tonight at @arenastage in D.C. Exactly 2 years to the day that I got on a plane to head to Berkeley to start rehearsals for our last go around. This thing came and found me at a time when I didn’t realize how desperately I needed it. Thank you to every single person who has made it possible for us to keep sharing this piece with audiences. Happy opening shipmates. I love you all. ⚓️
I just don’t know quite how to say goodbye to this one. Farewell for now. This thing. It means the world to me. Thank you so much to everyone who worked on it and to all who came to bear witness. Until next time.
