John Iadarola Instagram – Every month my Patrons get access to original fantasy, sci-fi, and post apocalyptic fiction I write. This month I have something special in store for the holidays: every patron gets access to a beta reader version of my draft novel Shadow of the Mousethief, the first of my Redwall-esque Tales of Cloak & Claw.
I’m hoping your feedback will help me tweak the final draft so that it can be in the best shape for submission for publication.
Here’s the basic concept:
The Avian Imperator’s elite Talons have come to Ravenfall, a gaslamp city of back-alley cutpurses and forbidden magic. Young mousethief Ren has always dreamed of joining the Talon’s ranks, but despite his quick paws and growing skill, he has two strikes against him. First, he and his younger sister Emi are orphan strays – outcasts among outcasts. Far worse, he’s being pursued by a brutish weasel to join the Bitterbridge Blades, a gang with a dark reputation. Accepting her offer could cost him his dream, but turning her down could cost him his life. At the behest of the gang, he burglarizes the tower of a mysterious crow, and ends up possessed by a living shadow that hungers to gain control over his body.
On the run from the Blades, the crow’s army of zealots, and a gruesome abomination wrought from dark magic, Ren must learn to wield the powers of the shadow if he’s to have any hope of survival. All the while, he is caught between two dear friends. Luban, a scheming opossum, wants to use the shadow to become kings of Ravenfall’s underworld. The implacable pangolin Farah, previously the prisoner of the crow, desires vengeance above all else. Ren must choose a path, and fast, because the crow will stop at nothing to recover the shadow.
In addition to Shadow of the Mousethief, a number of other stories as well as behind the scenes videos, podcasts, and dramatic readings await you, so become a patron today at www dot patreon dot com slash johniadarola
