Luke Smallbone Instagram – Christmas morning, our family woke up to the usual tree with presents and much excitement. The kids were beaming ear to ear, and like always were very, very excited to open gifts. It was then that something different happened. Just before we were about to tell the kids to open their presents, Leo, our 6 year old tugged on my shirt and said “Dad, would you open the present I got you first?” I was quite struck by his question, a child more excited for us to open his gift then he was about opening ours..
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I find these kids teaching me the Good News. They teach me the Gospel in action. In this case, living out Jesus’s word- “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
For Courtney and me, Leo taught us both something that I want to take into this new year. To just give. Give of my time. My love. My money. My gifts. Not only that, but to find deep joy in it… like that of the joy our son had when giving me his present Christmas morning.
May 2024 be the most joyful year of our lives as we learn and relearn to give.
