So many memories of how our second album #DOYOUWANTMORE or #DYWM got made. If you been following @stonyislandpods #WhatHadHappenedWas podcast (a podcast focused on a career retrospect via albums that artist releases——-this being part 3 of do you want more——next week is Illadelph Halflife)——-then you know we made the album in “quarters”
1st quarter (Dec 93-Jan94)- mellow my man/swept away/distortion to static/dat skat/in your dreams kid/it’s comin/worldwide/essaywhuman?!/the title cut/and about 30 other joints that didn’t make it
2nd quarter (Feb 94): proceed/I remain calm/lazy afternoon/and more songs that didn’t make it
3rd quarter March of 94: you ain’t fly/what goes on pt 7/all those distortion & proceed & silent treatment remixes
4th quarter April 94: the lesson/? Vs Rahzel/the unlocking/there’s somethin goin on
I’ll never forget what it was to see someone freestyle on the spot ON the mic.
For some of December we got to witness @mcsupernatural do the same in studio C at battery (I remember a joint that went “when I was king….when I was king I ruled everything”) he told me “imma freestyle this entire album!
But man, in my head I’m like “are we really gonna let this kid behind the wheel before showing us he HAS a license first?

Ep 2 ORGANIX 1: how a purty gal mistook me for a bucket drummer in a @officialspikelee Levi’s commercial & Tariq and I deciding if we do just that on south street “there might be more girls that like us!” —-not quite….we got a career tho
ep 3 ORGANIX 2: we turned a demo into a 12 inch into an ep and now a full fledged lp—-and now we are on a hunt for a deal. We spend all of 93 looking for one and in the 11th hour w seconds on the clock….our lives change
Ep4: DO YOU WANT MORE: the jig is up and I make some life changes that’s not too pleasing to my dad’s ears. But I got my own dream to live, not his. I also learn how to improve our sound. And the seeds of the family come together
ep5 DYWM PT2: a terrible tragedy occurs & almost sends us tail spinning to being a moment away from losing the deal we worked so hard to get. Knowing our live show is our saving grace we ran away to live in Europe…..broke.
Ep6 DYWM pt 3: living in a foreign land trying to make a spark outta wet rocks—-with a broken down tourbus we “little train that could” our way to anyone willing to listen. It seems hopeless and then @sosobrat inadvertently saves our lives
Ep 7: Illadelph halflife 1 ——feeling defeated and disappointed the world didn’t embrace us as fast as we woulda like, we decide (and by we I mean mostly them) to meet our audiences ears in the middle. Will we blow up? Will we implode? 👀👀👀

Not many people know that there is a culinary version of the performing arts school in NYC (Food & Finance High School) ——-in the culinary it’s somewhat hard to chase a dream or pursue a higher education in food science ——-and for ALOT of these kids: THIS is their way in.
When I was young we just assumed this kind of food art was not made for us and so for a lot of people of color there was lost opportunity because history has shown how inventive we are with transforming food into magic.
