Takashi Murakami Instagram – If you’ve walked through our collection galleries before, you may notice a very familiar Ming dynasty Chinese porcelain jar in #MurakamiMonsterized. On view for the first time, this is one of several new works Murakami created for this exhibition. Murakami’s love of ceramics led him to start translating their designs into paintings, beginning with his monumental blue and white Qinghua series which are also part of this exhibition. Inspired to make a painting of our lidded jar, exhibition curator Laura Allen brought photos of the artwork to his studio in 2019. 🏛️ See this new painting by Murakami then head to the second floor galleries to see the original lidded jar that inspired him.
