NYC, 1965: skateboarding was already bringing people together for collective joy. The first dude is the coolest, ever. I would love to identify him just to find out how he adopted a perfect stance his first time out… and on his lunch break?
Last pic is the legendary @pattimcgee, unintentionally paving the way for future generations of women to become pro skaters.

My skating highlight of 2023: doing a McTwist at @thvertalert after breaking my leg in 2022… doing a McTwist. Thanks for all of the encouragement and kind words during my difficult recovery. Here’s to more safe & solid landings in 2024 🛹🎉

I have no context here but the hype is palpable: @tonyii.skate landing her first kickflip via @girlskate_nairobi in Kenya 🇰🇪🛹
(thanks @moeazy for sharing)
Thanks to everyone for the kind words about my final video “Tapes You Leave Behind.” The project was inspired by Stacy Peralta’s first video entitled “Skateboarding In The Eighties” in 1981 (before Bones Brigade Video Show). It featured Mike, Steve, Rodney and me, using this same [timeless] Ultravox song, from which the lyrics inspired the title. I asked the same crew, adding Lance and Tommy, to revisit some of their tricks in that video and BBVS since we’re all still actively skating 40+ years later. It has been my distinct honor to be associated with these legends through the decades, and it felt right to include them in my videographic swan song.
I’ll still be here skating as much as possible; but no longer torturing myself mentally & physically for the sake of comprehensive video missions. You can watch the full edit on @thrashermag YouTube. Skate or die.
Earlier this year, @chad_caruso rode his skateboard across the USA. So I bought it and took it for a spin. Check out his YouTube channel to see his incredible journey.
NYC, 1989: we had no days off during the summer Bones Brigade tour but we wanted to visit NYC because none of us had been there before. We drove the tour van from Long Island that morning, parked in the Bowery, made our way to CBGB’s, bought some shirts and got back on the road in time for our demo that afternoon (probably in NJ or PA). Thank you @tsherms for documenting these magical days; they feel like a different lifetime. New York City

I honestly can’t believe that I’m in this conversation a year after [re]repairing my broken leg, and 33 years after being bestowed with the inaugural SOTY title. It has been an honor and a privilege being considered relevant among so much incredible (and comparatively young) skateboarding talent. Thanks for the decades of support and consistent joy you’ve all provided… skating is the best, even when it hurts. 👴🏼🛹
A perfect holiday gift: the @citizenwatchus CZ Smart Hybrid smartwatch has interchangeable straps and an 18-day battery life, making it suitable for any situation… or skate scenario. #CitizenPartner #CZSmart #LiveSmartLookSmart
The only video documentation I’ve seen from 1988’s “Capitol Burnout” mini-ramp event in Sacramento is @majordredd’s VHS footage. I recently watched the entire raw tape and here are some finds from practice & preliminary runs:
1) me dodging the full crowd scene for practice
2) @stevecaballero mini maestro
3) @lancemountain with an Accident!
4) Gonz showing us the future
5) @nblender on brand
6) Natas has pop
7) @originalbk sickest smith
8) John @lucero_rip going full Whittier
9) my desperate qualifying run
10) my final run
Thanks for sending this Mike! Sacramento, California
We have seen this classic photo of @tonyhawk on the internet and we just realized Tony is holding the very deck that he loaned us to feature in the currently running Skateboard Exhibit at the @designmuseum in London. The exhibit runs through June 2024 go have a look. How cool! #skateboardinghalloffame Design Museum

Happy 21st @calvinino! Thanks for all of the love and entertainment… and for always providing necessary support in whatever situation arises.

I lit up the Vert Alert beacon for one of the last sessions of 2023 and it did not disappoint; huge airs, rare tricks, our [adult] kids and a piano NBD 🎹🛹

Unearthed BTS footage from Gleaming The Cube (1989)! Thanks to @emmaterrestrial for sending this along; her dad wrote the screenplay and shot all of it. This pool had never been skated before we got there btw… and hasn’t been skated since.
