The samba school, founded in 1953, is my inspiration for today’s costume. In 2020, Acadêmicos do Salgueiro showcased the art of Benjamin de Oliveira, Brazil’s first black clown.
In the northern region of Rio de Janeiro, the Samba School from Tijuca sparked a crucial social reflection on education, art, and culture in Brazil through representation and black resistance during the parade.
The tin soldier costume symbolizes the army allied with the Benjamins who resist in Brazil!
As the late Quinho, performer at the Salgueiro Samba School, sang at the parade all those years ago : “Smiling is Resisting”! 🎶

Today we pay tribute to Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel. @mocidadeoficial Inspired by the symbol of the samba school: The Five-Pointed Star.
I wanted to emphasize the light of this School, well-known for illuminating the carnival with its avant-garde parades and for having one of the greatest stars in our country’s history: Elza Soares.
Break down the barries for the women. Always. We will shine!
