Brown’s staging highlighted the cultural significance of movement in drama in a way that Shange, who also trained as a dancer, would no doubt have cherished.” This was a powerful day of sisterhood. You could almost touch the strength, power, and love in the room. Sharing stories, laughing, and holding space for each other. I am very thankful to have been included in this number and for Imani Perry’s words about my work. It was thrilling watching the run through of the production on the Lyric Opera stage and getting some one on one time with the dancers. Their energy was so powerful and I was very, very moved.
