I am absolutely thrilled to say that yesterday in Warsaw I was awarded a Polityka Passport – one of the most prestigious art awards in Poland. Congratulations to all the nominated artists and laureates, it was an utter bliss to see my name on the same list. And now… back to work!
LA!
I needed a couple of days to settle down back in Europe and its slightly different temperature of sun beams (or rather lack of them recently). It has been three incredibly stimulating months but what makes me really happy is the amount of film rolls and new tunes I managed to collect throughout this period, which are prolonging the process of experiencing those utterly elusive feelings. As someone said “we use memories to establish our identities through time”. I find it profoundly beautiful – this need of settling down, establishing ourselves with something completely opposite – fleeting and ambiguous. Sweet contradictory elements – just as human nature is. So we keep on telling stories, taking pictures and making music… Feel free to tuck into the new update of my playlist “Life is a film” including songs by such artists as: @davidbyrneofficial, @kraejiyaeji, @ayandasikade, @hakonkornstad, @eccopn, @maryoverthere, Alfred Schnittke, @mettehenriette, @adriannelenker and many others. More is coming soon…

Congratulations to my friend @olafurarnalds for another Grammy nomination – this time for the album which I was involved in (!) – “Some kind of piece – piano reworks”. I did a rework of the Woven Song (recorded by @viktorarnason ) and it’s pretty insane to learn that the record did so well. Also some other heartwarming news coming from Washington. “Ghosts” was listed as one of the favorite albums of the year by one and only @bob_boilen – for which I am utterly grateful. Have a listen to Bob’s show archive with his all fave records. Cheers!

The other day I was leaving my flat in a rush, grabbing a new book to start which I decided to put directly in one of my jacket’s vast pockets. The impeccably white cover scared me a bit so I came up with a quick solution of a plastic bag which felt fitting the size of the little book and which I pinpointed on the chair close to the entrance door (and it was the only solution that was looming on the horizon). I looked down on my hand holding the book adorned with translucent fabric of visibly used plastic. I smiled thinking that actually it looks charming (and kind of cool) and that I am definitely getting old (this is what usually people who get old think of themselves, I suspect).

5. What scares me sometimes is the thought that one day we might lose Laurie Anderson, Patti Smith and Martha Argerich.
