Juliette Lewis Instagram – Let me talk to you about the Pit… The beauty and power of “controled chaos” caused by the Rocknroll fever- an involuntary urge to let it all go in a “violent”-ecstaticly joyous way. You see the crowd forming the dynamics and rules of The pit; back to fuck up and create space first. People who do not understand the culture might think this is scary- or means to fight- but everyone knows there are rules in this space you “play nice” and if you don’t, you will get handled by the group. It is a form of anarchy -at its best. This was the end of the most epic rocknroll show by @queensofthestoneage (Who my band J&The Licks had the great privilege of playing festivals with some years ago) Anecdote: I once played a show in China- The riot police were called after the first song. I took that as a huge compliment, But I knew in hindsight this was the deep oppression of a free society. Over there they control how enthusiastic you’re allowed to even clap or “Woohoo!”- They wanna control energy not even just words and actions, but your level of exuberance as a person. Can you imagine? Yeah I couldn’t until I saw it. Riot police guns and all-came marching up and stood at the side of this beautiful audience watching our show to let them know you clap or holler a little too enthusiastically you can, and will be arrested or ushered out – So when I see this group, so moved by the music, creating a space for their own, exulted danger & joyousness, it sets my soul free. #longliverocknroll #queensofthestoneage #qotsa #livemusic
