Happy New Year to all. (the second pic reflecting that this is my first Hogmanay as the designated driver!)
So lovely to catch up with my good friend and former @plaidcymruwales leader @leanne.cymru in Edinburgh earlier.
Lovely to spend time last night talking music, poetry, books and politics with the legendary Shirley Manson @garbage with @ambushinc @michaelpedersenoyster and @holliepoetry – thanks to @blackgrapewinebar for delicious food.

So terribly sad to hear of the death of John Byrne, supremely talented playwright and artist, one of Scotland’s most important cultural voices of modern times, and the loveliest of men. I was thrilled in 2017 when he agreed to do the illustration for my First Minister Xmas card. My condolences to his loved ones.

Good morning from a beautiful, and slightly frosty, Clyde coast – looking forward to taking part in the legendary Cove & Kilcreggan book festival later 📚
Wishing everyone a happy and peaceful Christmas
The things we don’t appreciate on our doorstep – some pics from a lovely 5k walk in Strathclyde Country park earlier. Pic 2 explains pic 1 for those who, like me, didn’t know this was there

Had a lovely day in Argyll talking books. So wonderful to live in a country where, in little more than an hour, we can get from the big city to morning views like this
Happy Christmas Eve Eve 🎄

Snow-time ❄️❄️❄️
📚📚📚 A bit earlier than usual (in case anyone looking for ideas for Xmas 🎁 ) here are the novels I most enjoyed in 2023. (I’ve also been lucky to read a couple of brilliant proofs recently but haven’t included them here as not out til next year) 📚📚 #bookstagram #books #reading
This is a book I’ve been meaning to read for months – squeezing it in before the year ends, and really enjoying it. An engrossing, deep dive into the world of publishing 📚
For fans of the late, great Hilary Mantel, or those keen to read her for the first time, this new collection of her essays and articles is a joy. I was delighted to review it for @newstatesman

A bracing walk followed by a good book makes for a nice Sunday afternoon! Many thanks to @sineadgleeson for giving me an early peek of this – just four chapters in and I’m already engrossed 📚📚
