RBG 🖤 rest in peace, rest in power. Thank you doesn’t sum up how indebted we are to you. 📸: Bettmann Archive / Getty Images
It’s exhausting still waking up to news like this… Waking up to the mournful messages of another Black life… Brazenly gone. People not taking a second to step back and recognize that there is a mentally disabled human in front of them. A human that already had to live a lifetime of just trying to survive. We must normalize speaking on mental health issues and utilize a truly empathetic approach in our societies. We must continue to advocate for the well-being and safety of those who cannot do it for themselves. If we stay silent, we are further stifling the protection of those communities who need it most. The death of innocent Black lives cannot stay the norm, especially the lives of the disabled. Keep saying their names #WalterWallaceJr, #MatthewRushin, #ElijahMcClain, and the countless others who needed their communities to protect them. #RestinPower 🖤 Photo: @markmakela / Getty
John Lewis… There are no words to describe how I feel about this man. He was incomparable. From a young age, he decided he wanted to join the ranks of Martin and he did… His legendary vision… He will always be to me, the man who faced the unending faces of hate; he saw them and took them and didn’t back down. I will forever live by the path he paved and his words: “get in good trouble, necessary trouble.” Rest in Power. (📸: @pouyadianat)
Honored that @lovingthefilm was a part of AFI’s #BlackStoriesMatter week. Mildred was a loving mother, who just wanted to see her boys and girl reach adulthood with the same rights as others in America. Can we do her justice?
